Yendi We Salute You…

Hi Fashionistas

Yendi Phillips served Jamiaca well at the Miss Universe pageant yesterday where she placed second.    Despite all the controversy surrounding her appointment to represent Jamaica… Yendi did the nation proud and made history at the same time – you go girl.

Yes we are facebook friends and that girl has been in the gym working… working… working even when her body did not want to go :) .  Right Yendi!   But boy what a body and what a beauty.

All your critics were silenced last night as you rocked that stage in all your outfits.  We do need to talk about the dress! But you still rocked it and shone like the star you are…

Congratulations on being a great ambassador for this nation during these very difficult times.

What did you think about her performance?  Should she have won?

Shaz.

  2. fabian linton says:

You go Girl!!! Yendi you have the faith and what it takes to over come the challenge and i love your figure and you deserve the place you got even though it is a aim for the sky thingy but thats what you earn and its great to know that you won a place such as 2nd in the miss Universe pageant! You’ve Earn it!! Rock on. Peace N Love

  3. May Brown says:

Yep I thought Yendi should have won, my husband called me from Canada and asked if I was watching it, I scan the limited channel that I have and couldn’t find it, fortunately I have internet so could see it live, I was clapping, thumping the air and shouting when she was in the top five and held my breath at the final selection, was sad when she was placed second but you know what…..IN MY BOOK SHE IS A WINNER.

  4. Barbara says:

Yendi, I am so proud of you girl. You have such a great body, so elegant, beautiful, full of poise and confidence. I stayed up all night to watch you win but its ok. You made it out of 80+ girls into the top five to place 2nd. What a victory. Way to go girl!!!! Jamaica we little but we tallawah.

  5. Mushiya says:

Congrats Yendi! you did Jamaica Proud

This should have been first page news today.. come on Jamaica media

  6. Jakan says:

I agree with Andrene. I would love to see what scores they all got for the interview question for I would like to know how Miss Mexico could overtake Miss Jamaica when Miss Mexico did not answer the question. Up to the interview stage Yendi was ahead and in 1st place. Miss Australia was the only one who could compare to Yendi in the interview section and she was just too far behind to overtake her. I’d love to see the scores.

She deserves better thanthe place she got Fabian.

Unfair game plays twice and Miss Mexico to me looks very frail so let’s see if she manages to fulfill her reign.

  7. judy marshall says:

Congrats Yendi I had every faith in you. Go girl.

  8. judy marshall says:

Congrats Yendi. I am so proud of you. You are a true ambassador.

  9. Barbie A says:

Yendi did very well in my eyes. She carried herself well. My Gosh 9.4 in the bathing suit
competition. I knew she topped them all the moment I saw her walk out. Great body and nuff style and attitude.
She was definately the winner in my eyes.

  10. Sharnelle says:

I honestly thought that someone else deserved a shot at the title it does not matter if they win internationally or not Yendi already got her chance. She also would have won the national title anyway because she had an advantage over the other girls due to her modeling experience.I do not care what anyone else want to say never liked Yendi never will and as a youth this just shows how unlevel the playing field is and the bigotry that forms the backbone of society.

  11. outaroad says:

I agree sharnelle. I still don’t like her either. I think she has this paris hilton thing going on. I still beleive she loves publicity & is always trying to do something to get the public’s attention. this whole thing is all about HER. nothing else.

  12. peter says:

yow yendi wen u cum home mi a u red carpet mi a lie down an u wake pan mi big up GURLLLLL

  13. LeroyP says:

Yendi did well. Had she answered the last questinon with a little more open-mindness no one could have stopped her for taking the crown. Nonetheless, she has made us very proud. Nuff respect Yendi.

  14. angela p says:

I am proud of Yendi. She should have won. I dont know anything about her, I only saw her for the first time on pageant night and she was stunning. you go girl. ottawa Canada

  15. elaine says:

It would be very great to see om what grounds yendi lost the miss universe title. If this was due to her making reference to our maker the almighty then that is very sad. unfortunately to all the ungodly, Jamaicans aint gonna sell God for beauty, money or fame. god will always reward those of us who put him first. Haleluja for ever amen. congrats Yendi, God almighty has big plans for u

  16. john pecos says:

we jamaican can be great when we want to be great, and at times is like we do not care.

  17. annette says:

America no mix religion with any issue…Yendi became runner-up the minute she mentioned the creator..I am happy that she was true to herslf tho….

  18. Sebastian says:

Well done Yendi. You made us all proud. To all Jamaicans u r a winner. Thank you. Bless.

  19. kay says:

Another winner!!!!! We have been so successful in all endeavours as jamaicans. My phone was so busy that night. Texting on facebook, with friends and family all over united states, Canada and London(they were up till very late) we sure know how to support each other. hats off to Yendi Phillips. She reminds me off LISA HANNA.

  20. Hanif says:

Sharnelle, makes a point I too thought that Yendi should have given the ‘up and comers’ a chance, her exposure did give her an advantage over the newcomers. Nonetheless she maximized the opportunity that the ‘system’ allowed, worked hard to improve her weaknesses, and did her best for herself and Jamaica and for that I must say “RESPECT”. She has proven that she can carry any title any day, the thing now is to move on and take it to the next level…..Congrats girl…

  21. Jayceeni says:

Yendi blew them ALL away. She answered her question correctly but those people do not like to hear God’s name. The Latinas usually get the crown and this year was no different. The gown was elegant and she wore it well. Yendi has represented Jamaica as well as any athlete and she should be commended. Her accomplishment at the pageant has done Jamaica proud. Congratulations Yendi!

  22. CLICK says:

sharnelle it sounds like you got feelings bottled up, choking you maybe; LISTEN GIRL. that hate will get you no where. Its like a rocking chair, gives you something to do but gets you nowhere!
    FREE UP!

  23. Msunsureof says:

I am happy she did not win the pageant. In all that fake hair and trying to look white. She has already won one title, she has used her popularity to her advantage and claimed she was more interested in acting and editorial shoots. All of a sudden she wants to be Miss Universe.Boring. We have so many beautiful women in Jamaica, enuff of you Yendi.

  24. ado says:

I believe the final question was what edged out Yendi. She would have won if she added balance to the answer. Dont get me wrong, as a jamaican, I was more than satisfied with the answer which states her opinion but the smarter answer would have looked at both sides of the death penalty. With that said, Yendi should have won because she was the only one who actually answered the question asked. btw i didnt like the blue dress but the swim suit and the attitude strut was the booomb

  25. craig says:

Sharnelle I smell the hate in you, I bet you are a ugly duckling, They aare usually the ones who spread so much hates on beautiful people. Yendi you rocks, I was so proud of you and my Country while watching the Miss Universe Pagent. You were Definately robbed of the title but always remember you are the winner for every Jamaican except haters like Sharnelle.

  26. Fiona says:

I am proud of Yendi for taking us so far in the competition. People say her gown is at fault but I believe it is two things and will not believe otherwise. Yendi brought a lot to the table and had very good scores in every competition. I watched this competition from start to finish and I can say she deserved that crown and, they stole it from her because of Nepotism. The only blunder was when she mentioned God in her answer in a country where most of the big names are Atheist. People can say what they want but, when it come down to Mexica and Jamaica the better choice is Mexico not because she was intelligent, brainy and beautiful but because of investment. You all answer this question: Where in Jamaican can Donald Trump drop a Trump Towers or Casino tomorrow morning? No where!! So Yendi could not help it cause all odds were against her anyway. I am very proud of her. After years of sending all these skim milk who masquerade as cream, Yendi was the only one to place in the highest rank. Come home safe Yendi!! The crown belongs to you no matter what they say.

  27. Simone says:

    Elaine, Andrene, Jakan;

I am in the same position as you. Mexico did not answer the question that she was aksed; how is it that she was placed first. Even when it was the swimwear section her average score was a platry 5.2 while Yendi’s was a solid 7. Anyone else wining would not have made me so mad. Her only plus in this section was the description she gave for having chosen that particular gown nothing else.

  28. jj says:

Msunsureof and Sharnell sound bitter and coveteous. I think Yendi did well. A little extra with the walk at 1st but over all she did Jamaica proud. U guys hate sound real deep and unu need to snap out of it now! If the new and younger ones had done well they would have represented JA but Yendi did well and too bad for u haters she is 1st runner up. I wonder how beautiful u guys r. If beauty is only on the outside u re doom. Get some inside beauty man!

  29. Collette says:

Yendi, for the first time I sat and watched a beauty pageant. You know why, because you had a lot of haters, and we, my entire family and I, was backing you… In the end they gave you 1st runner up, but girl all I heard was first, and it will stick. Your answer to the question was well done, the topic of question is a controversial one, and you did well in your answer. MORE POWER TO JAMAICA. Girl how you look real good.

  30. Valrie says:

Yendi you did Jamica proud and we are proud of you girl. You are a natural beauty. You are a sweetie. Keep it up girl. Love u.You are our winner in my heart. God bless!!!!

  31. Wendi you did your country and your maker well.
i am very proud of you.

  32. Ash Lee says:

Hanif… great answer. I’m not certain as to why some people really dislike Yendi – we are all Jamaicans and want the best rep possible. Nonetheless, everyone is entitled to their opinion – this is a free country.

Just understand for all the young, up&comers, LIFE in general is not fair. There will always be others who have some kind of advantage (brains, money, connections, politics, etc)… You will build character based on how you overcome and move forward.. If you are a winner in your eyes and that is your truth, then you are indeed a winner no matter what the world says. This is the mentality you must have… Also, graciousness goes a long way. To bad mouth your competitor shows poor character… but all said, at the end of the day, that’s just my opinion.

The world noh fair! The sooner you learn that and start to focus on positive, the better.

  33. Pasty says:

I didn’t watch the beauty pageant because I didn’t know it was on TV but I did saw some of it on u tube and I did see the question round and I believe that miss Jamaica and miss Australia answer their question from their heart.M am proud of my country and miss Yendi.

  34. Pasty says:

I didn’t watch the show on TV but I did saw the question round on u tube and I believe that Miss Jamaica and Miss Australia answer the question from their heart, even thow it was a political difficult Miss Yendi is a beautiful girl and happy for as a proud Jamaican

  35. TINA says:

  37. Chocolate says:

Well done Yendi! I believe the dress may have cost her d crown! It looked very old fashioned/boring…wrong colour…(hello!) She would have looked much more stunning/elegant in a dress with “flair” and “lot more attention”…which could have enhanced her delivery!

  38. donna says:

    Hello Yendi
You are dream come through for the country. We are proud of your result ,continue to do what you do best. We all salute you.You are still a winner . I think your response to the question was a good one and God is always with you.

  40. missunho says:

Yendi did great ! I don’t care who it is once u repping I have to support! I am not going to say oh someone else should hve won just because yendi got her chance.NE ways once she took a strong christian view on the question I knew the title was not hers.It is Miss Universe after all not everyone is a christian . .. And what about ppl who are athiest should they take the lives of others ?I think she answered based on her personal morals n emotions .In life its about being open minded and taking into consideration everyone even those who do not share similar beliefs.
Most jamaicans would have answered the question from a christian point of view ..by default.great job thu

  41. Maxi says:

She was weak on the interview question. I won a debate on the very subjectm — for and against capital punishment. Could have answered without religious reference. Okay, Jamaicans are very religious but a stronger answer would have been “Killing sends the wrong message everytime”

  42. Auntie Rosie says:

And to think, I held her as a baby

  43. Auntie Rosie says:

    So awesome

  44. Debs says:

Sharnelle you need a life. You obviously hate Yendi because you can NEVER WALK in her shoes. Whatever happened in school with you and her GET OVER IT……….MOVE ON.

Yendi you did us proud your mom is SURELY smiling down on you from heaven, and not to mention PROUD pops. Haleem we knew she could do it. CONGRATS Yendi Amira you are OUR QUEEN.

    Much LOVE

  45. Karrol says:

Congrats Yendi; daughter of the soil.
    Black Green and Gold forever!
    Out of many ONE.

  46. DEON says:

YENDI, YOU GO GIRL! YOU AND AUSTRALIA WERE CHEATED! THOSE WHO SAY THEY DON’T LIKE YOU MUST BE THOSE WHO DON’T KNOW YOU! YOU ARE OUR JAMAICAN QUEEN! BIG UP!

  47. missann says:

i dont know how it happen but yandi you are the winner and you are first runner up.you go girl.

  48. patty says:

    Congrats Yendi,
I am soooooooooooooooo proud of you. you have represented our country well. To all the Haters. (SHARNELLE AND OTHERS) This is a message to you. STOP HATING, STOP THE COVETUOSNESS, TIME IS TOO SHORT, WHEN ONE OF OUR OWN EXCEED WE SHOULD JUMP FOR JOY. SO THAT JAMAICA MAY UNDER GOD INCREASE IN BEAUTY FELLOWSHIP AND PROSPERITY. ONE LOVE

  49. Jakan says:

I find it REALLY silly for anyone to say Yendi got her chance. She has never entered Miss Universe competition before so what damn chance are they talking about? Some people have a nerve trying to tell others what they can and cannot do in their lives. The nerve!

One of my siblings thinks we should make a YouTube video and embarass the judges who gave Miss Mexico a better interview score when she did not even answer her question.Yendi has done her part now we should do ours and defend what should have been given to her. YouTube anyone? Just the interview section between the two

  50. Roan says:

Well done Yendi, I feel very proud to Jamaican.
I am sure you will not pay attention to the nay sayers. Congratulations!!!!!!!
