Is She Or Isn’t She Beautiful?

Hi there fashionista’s

As I prepare  for another fashion filled weekend in the Caribbean… I find that I am continuously being asked my opinion on the whether the new Miss Jamaica World, Chantal Raymond is beautiful or not?

Does she have ” the looks” to win the Miss World competition? She’s intelligent but is she beautiful? Did the judges make the right choice for a beauty pageant? Are the panel that selected her to be our Miss Jamaica World really  credible,  or qualified enough to make that decision?  Should her critics be silent (just like Yendi’s) and support the Jamaican choice? And naturally the questions just keep coming, as do the  discussions surrounding this issue.

Whats your opinion fashionistas?

As you would expect I have strong opinions regarding this topic so please get the ball rolling, I’m eager to participate :-)

ms raymond enterd 4 years ago and placed 5th with no substantial placing in the critical area of beach beauty. fashionistas, body beautiful still matters as the young lady must be pleasing to the eye. so tommy james’ feeble attempt to expalin away ms raymonds win years later is not only insulting but smacks of an unadulterated rotting sense of purpose. isn’t it time to stop the madness ! who would want to enter this excuse of a beauty pageant called MJW… !!

No surprise that Chantal is running for 2nd to last place at the MWC. What a total waste of money? I cannot and will not blame Chantal, I blame the judges. One rule when selecting the judges next year…. NO LIQUOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE JUDGEMENT!!!! Clearly they were all under the influence. Poor child… like a lamb off to be slaughtered.

  5. AshLee says:

@Sandy… exactly! *LOl* Ms. Raymond should not have entered the door, much less have won MJW… Oh, how our standards have fallen *shaking head*
1 advice Chantal – Stick to the books dear. We are happy for your accomplishment in that area. Cheer!

we are all entitled to our oppinnion and freedom of speech, we dont have to support each other if we dont want to or believe we should.

  7. AshLee says:

Well, i think we can close the chapter on this one… the results this weekend speak for themselves! Harvard what???

MJW organizers, judges, etc… Listen, we are Jamaicans and we like to WIN!!! Even if Chantal didn’t place but we thought she was a good rep, we would have felt ok… but the entire nation cannot be wrong! You made a bad call this time around, boy… *shaking head*

Hey Ashlee, How many miss Universe winners have Jamaica produced, None!! is right. The Trini Girls have won it twice, and have been in the top 10 simi finals and finals, just about every year. As for your racist remark you know the word, well I think you are back in the 50s and 60s, you see in Trinidad, they see all races as beautiful. but since your comment indicated you were speaking of people of East Indian decent, may I say Miss India have won Miss world and Miss Universe many times over. I am American man, married to an Indian Trini girl, and after 30 years, she is still the most beautiful woman, inside and out.

  9. That awkward moment when Miley Cyrus has to change the lyrics to “Nobody’s Perfect” because she didn’t know Justin Bieber at the time.

  10. AshLee says:

Scot! I have NO IDEA what you’re talking about as it appears there must be something taken out of context somewhere… Maybe you should read all remarks from beginning (2010) so you follow… Follow???

BTW… I am always in defense of beauty (yes, inside and out) but as a Jamaican, i embrace the beauty of racial mixture BECAUSE I am one such. My dad is a mix of both chinese & Indian and my mom is a beautiful black woman, who’s grandfather is a straight white scotsman (born in Scotland but who moved to Jamaica and married a Jamaican black woman!).

Now, maybe everyone will understand why i’ve always maintained there shouldn’t be “reverse” discrimination (well, at least of color) because to me we”re all one and the same and we’re ALL Jamaican! Well, maybe except for you Scot :) And by nature of being Jamaican, we are of mixed race, culture & heritage.

Our debate was really about people’s individual feelings about the reigning Miss Jamaica… some people turned the conversation into a light skin, dark skin issue, which is so totally off base*lol*

Honestly, I didn’t really think Yendi was all that pretty either. She’s very photogenic, but watch her in interviews, she doesn’t really have that gorgeous face … at least not to the extent that she was idolized. This girl may not be that photogenic, but in person may be kinda pretty. I do believe that since Yendi is lighter skinned, has an amazing body and is so tall, and has a presence, noone was willing to say, u know what? she really isn’t that pretty and look how far she got. This girl isn’t bad. People need to support her just like they supported Yendi and prepare her so that her strengths will eventually outshine her weaknesses in the competitions….. just like everyone and their mommas rallied around Yendi.
