Yendi We Salute You…

Hi Fashionistas

Yendi Phillips served Jamiaca well at the Miss Universe pageant yesterday where she placed second.    Despite all the controversy surrounding her appointment to represent Jamaica… Yendi did the nation proud and made history at the same time – you go girl.

Yes we are facebook friends and that girl has been in the gym working… working… working even when her body did not want to go :) .  Right Yendi!   But boy what a body and what a beauty.

All your critics were silenced last night as you rocked that stage in all your outfits.  We do need to talk about the dress! But you still rocked it and shone like the star you are…

Congratulations on being a great ambassador for this nation during these very difficult times.

What did you think about her performance?  Should she have won?

Shaz.

Maxi… I hear what you’re saying and don’t disagree… However, no need to tout yourself. Yendi was on the world stage with maybe 30 seconds (not sure how long) to answer a very controversial question… You’ve been in debates on the subject which i’m sure alloted you far more time for formulating well rounded answers and expounding on them. Yendi simply answered based on her beliefs and from the heart, which we all know and agree was not “politically correct” for this arena. A so it go… WE are PROUD of her. She is still #1 to us!

  2. Mama D. A. S. says:

Knew you from SS Peter N Paul Prep. Nursery, Yendi you alway had that fire and pep. Remember when you and the guys in grades 5 N 6 competed for 1st 2nd and 3rd every term (you know who 4 guys N 3 girls) only those specials boys could be invited to the girls party,it was so refreshing and cute, you proved that you have it in you. Keep up the GRACES given to you through GOD the FATHER,you will never fail.

  3. Ash Lee says:

And Congrats again Yendi! You continue to make St. Andrew High (aka ‘Andrews’) proud… We’ve been producing beauty & brains for years and you’ve proven that we still got it! Big up!

  4. trixy says:

She does not represent jamaica instead she represents 0.0001% of the jamaican population. You couldnt tell hers apart from many hispanics. “out of many one people” is just a smokescreen as the minorities sneak up and take over JA for themselves.

  5. utech yute says:

Hearthy Congratulations Yendi, You have made us all proud. You are the clear winner of the contest, hands down.
Trixy, crawl back under your rock. Your silly comments shows that you dont go out often. There are Jamaican of every shade, from milk white to jet black, hence, “out of many one people”.

  6. trixy says:

@utech yute. Beauty, as they say is in the ‘eye of the beholder’ and I am as entitled to my opinion as you are. Its people like you that keep this country on its knees with your backward mentality and sycophantic behaviour. Little do you know I have got a life which is why I dont need to worship at feet of a beauty queen. In JA they are one cent per dozen. For some of us there more pressing issues to be dealing with right now.

  7. wingie says:

    trixy

shut your trap you are making no sense.

  8. cuwright says:

trixy dont hate appreciate.not bcause u don”t have the looks and obviously not the brains don”t condemn someone because they do . yendi congrats girl it”s people like you make me proud to be a JAMAICAN and people like trixy that makes it difficult some times to own up to our true heritage

  9. Derrick W Francis says:

Well done Yendi! Trixy, have you forgotten the national motto? “Out of many, one people”. Presumably, you were made to learn it in school…? Utech yute, you are hilarious!

  10. laney says:

Yendi you were excellent and i am very proud of you. I knew you would make it in the top 5. You answered you question satisfactorily considering the circumstance. There was no time to think about it like the rest of us in our living rooms. Keep it up. God bless you.

  11. Josie says:

Trixy, wipe your mouth you are talking……!!!!! Out of many one people…do you even know what that means? Don’t hate, just appreciate! By the way go research what “out of many, one people” means. Anyway at least I can find something to laugh at today….

  12. TINA says:

That is why we can’t get very far, because when one Jamaican shines we all shine. So Trixy, Bolt does not represent Jamaica because 0.001% of us are sprinters. What a stupid comment, Congratulate and stop hate, the girl did Jamaica name proud!!! do you know how much Bahamians and Trinidadians were on their beauty forums, carrying down Jamaica with these same comments?? come on man get behind your home team!!!!

  13. Ash Lee says:

@Trixy… I have to take a quote from another post a few days ago.
“Hate is like a rocking chair – it gives you something to do but gets you NOWHERE… FREE UP (your mind)!” *LOL*

  14. D says:

Cartibbean women have such an inferiority complex! Yendi is gorgeous and brillant and ambitious and a role model for contemporaries, she did not stop any of you from entering; watch her soar you might learn something!

Congratualtions Yendi, I have not watched a beauty pagent in years and was surfing the web that night and caught it and when I saw you I had to watch as I knew you were the winner!

All the best Yendi! positive vibes and good luck with your project locally in Jam.

  15. Colz says:

Congratz Yendi. Why was this not front page new the next day??? Anyhow, hold your head high, and you most certainly was the winner in my book. All your hard work paid off…and yes people…it is hard work. Let us all be proud and press on to our goals. Be blessed!!!

  16. Colz says:

BTW, Trixy ~ there are so many people to meet and learn from in Ja. alone, so go on a trip around the country sometime soon. I think it will help you appreciate your countrymen a LOT more. All shades and backgrounds. Ignorance is not always bliss. This is to encourage you not to put you down.

  17. SK says:

    Oh Sharnelle,
green is not a good colour!

Yendi, your performance was professional and excellent! I love that you were sensible and smart in using Miss World and South Africa as MU preparation.

Everyone was seeing the local MU competition, and you always saw the global prize. A so yuh bad!

Reap the rewards, mek it mad dem! And thanks for making Jamaica proud!!!!
    ~Fierce Forever.

  18. D. Plummer says:

Congratulations Yendi! You made Jamaica proud! We wish you continued success! For all Jamaicans you are Miss Universe as the one next to the first place winner you placed us on the world map in a positive light!

GO JAMAICA! WE ARE A GREAT NATION! MAY GOD
CONTINUE TO BLESS US AS A PEOPLE!!

  20. dutch says:

yendi whatever your doing its working for you, so as much as i think that u dont entirely represent ja we have other persons from less fortunate background that makes up the other 96% of our representitives. well done though

  21. Rosie says:

Shame on you Trixy. Why cant you just be happy for the sister? come on now:)

  22. Don Man says:

When I was growing up in jamaica these were some of the words I heard, not necessarily about me: “yu have good hair” “me wan fi me son fi marry one gal with long air and high colour”, I could go on on on. Get my drift. Many Jamaicans still sadly subcribe to the Eurocentric estetics as the mark of beauty. Hence its reflected in the choice of Jamaican Beauty Contestants.

  23. frankie J says:

yendi you are a positive role model for all jamaicans especially the youths. I have a teenage daughter who is intelligent, and beautiful. We both say may God you in all your endeavors.

  24. rich says:

Trixy!!!! if you don’t have anything good to say then say nothing!!!!!! Yea, you can cuss me now. i DON’T CARE.

Yendi, Heartiest congratulations to you. “Congratulations on being a great ambassador for this nation during these very difficult times.” Trust me Shaz, you are so right. These difficult times with CORRUPT POLITICIANS, AND CRIMINALS THAT SPOIL OUR GOOD NAME.

Yendi is an EXCELLENT AMBASSADOR FOR OUR COUNTRY AND WE ARE PROUD OF HER. All those who were complaining that she enter two beauty contests, are now silenced. Sandra Foster and Christine Straw did it so what’s the big deal. PROUD OF YOU YENDI!

  25. Bill Palmer says:

Congratulations Yendi, you are symbolic of the beauty, charm, and love of Jamaica and Jamaicans. And a special thanks for your statement re the death penalty, Love is reflected in Love.

    Bill (Seldom Seen Slim) Palmer

  26. karl says:

Congrats again Yendi and congrats Jamaica.
Yes people, we are best when we are true to ourselves, unstoppable when we are grounded in our roots. We are Jamaicans! lets be Jamaicans always.

  27. cammy says:

trixy, sometimes the best thing to do when you don’t have something constuctive to say is to simply- shut up.DO some self-reflection and retrace the origins of your negativity.
Go YENDI-you’ve made Jamaicans proud-at least-most of us.

  28. Ginger says:

Yendi, contragulations girl, I am so proud of you. You represented Jamaica well.
I am of mix race and have always had problems with people hating me for my shade. I never went to the store and purchsed it. This is what God gave me and i am happy with it. And I sure Yendi is proud of her accomplishments. So who are you to differ. God said we are all wonderfully made. So therefore, trixy be pround of who you are because you are wonderfuly made by the creator.

  29. morugamax says:

Congrats Miss Jamaica, you are very beautiful,I also liked Miss Trinidad I really taught she was going to win the crown.

  30. She did very well. Its time for us to be honest and admit that her answer was wrong for the pageant and her gown on the night was a tragedy-hot mess.
Her advancing so far in the competition meant that the judges liked her most of all. Unfortunately do you choose the girl that was political in her response, divisive with a tacky dress or you choose Miss Mexico-gorgeous, stunning girl, that walked the straight and narrow with her question and who you could be happy with representing the world.

The Miss Universe pageant is seeking a global ambassador. Yendi in a TVJ interview said she stayed true to herself – then she should have lost. Pageant girls understand that it’s never about their political views but it is about representing people of different cultures and values.

  31. MARIO D'ISANTO says:

WHY WOULD JAMAICANS HATE YENDI PHILLIPS???YAWWWWWWWWWWWN…THIS SOUNDS LIKE JEALOUSY TO ME…….YENDI WAS AND IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR JAMAICA IN YEARS..THE OTHER JAMAICAN GIRLS WERE NOT PREPARED FOR AN INTERNATIONAL PAGEANT AS MISS UNIVERSE.SO THERE WAS NOWAY THAT NO OTHER GIRL COULD HAVE WON MISS JAMAICA UNIVERSE…..MISS UNIVERSE IS ALL ABOUT FIERCENESS,PHYSICAL BEAUTY, SEXY BODIES,XFACTOR,MARKETABILITY……

CHANTAL DAVIS WHO PLACED SECOND NEED TO SIT BACK AND WATCH A VETERAN PERFORM AND THEN LEARN…..JAMAICAN GIRLS NEED TO BE TRAINED AND SPENT TIME TO WATCH YOUTUBE CLIPS OF PAST WINNERS…..
MANY JAMAICAN GIRLS BELIEVE THAT THEY HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO PLACE INTERNATIONALLY, PUHLEASE,THEY ARE ALL DREAMING….
IT TAKES MORE THAN JUST A PRETTY FACE TO WIN MISS UNIVERSE…PROPER TRAINING AND PACKAGING IS VERY MUCH NEEDED..JUST THE SAME WAY HOW AN OLYMPIC ATHLETE HAVE TO TRAIN FOR LONG HOURS TO BE READY FOR BIG MEET…

JAMAICAN GIRLS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN PAGEANTS NEED TO TAKE IT MORE SERIOUSLY.AND STOP BEING DELUSIONAL…DUHH!

  32. red dahlia says:

Em, intresting comments. Race/beauty still an issue. For me the unfortunate dress was more a topic. Such rubbish….the designer should be flooged…

  33. TINA says:

The dress looked sewn rather than designed, that made all the difference between 1st. and 2nd.

  34. mona says:

to all the dark skin haters yendi is beautiful. Full time to stop hate and get a life. just jealous

  35. vanessa says:

Man there is still alot of haters there jamaica. Especially dark skin girls. Sorry we dont know what its like and what you dark skin people are feeling inside.

  36. jenn says:

@shaz .. you ask “should she have won?”…omg, without a doubt ! .. yendi had it all the way until her final question which i’m not going to debate the merits or not anymore since it’s over and done….! she had the crown in her hands all the way somewhat to my surprise i might add as i’d given her a 50/50 chance .. like her or like her not sort of thing with a pageant like MU and a girl like Yendi..but it was clear they like her a helluva lot..the outcome, was well.., befitting and a lesson learned for prospective entrants..’be yourself always..don’t be limited by jamaica’s 4,411 sq miles of improbailities !!

  37. jenn says:

@vanessa there is the distinct feeling that you’re just gabbing for gabbing sake. you my dear.., are neither here nor there.., neither black nor white…, niether dark nor light…. in other words … stop being a NOBODY, with your silly comments !
