I am back to talk about one of our favourite topics … yes the First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama. Let me start with belated birthday wishes to the ‘first lady of fashion’ (January 17th). It goes without saying that during 2009, she retained her title ‘style diva’. Why? Because throughout the year she showed us all that we can look absolutely fabulous even on a small budget I’ve been watching the ‘First Lady‘ closely since the start of 2010 and I need your input guys and girls. What do you honestly think of her looks this month?
I agree with you Ruth (see the Happy New Year post) that she looked fab! fab! fab! at June Biden’s funeral, (Vice President, Joe Biden’s mother). But what did you think of her in the ‘plum wonder‘ by Issac Mizrahi. Yes I am talking about the dress Michelle wore to the State of the Union Address.
Mizrahi is one of my favourite designers but I’m really not sure that this look works for the ‘First Lady of fashion’. I watched the Address with my sister who said ” She looked better with the ‘purple’ coat on that we saw her leave the White House in…It promised so much …such a classic cut.” Yes she was disappointed by the reveal, and yes she is not too good with colours.
Following are some pictures of her looks during January 2010.

Now you can see Mrs Obama in the Mizrahi gown (above). Photo by ZapToIt, www. aboutmichelleobama.blogspot.com
She is also pictured in the funeral attire, I mentioned earlier. Naturally, The President ‘Mr O’ is not looking too shabby either . Photo from Getty on www.essence.com
A few things are constant with regards to Mrs Obama’s style this month. Her make-up looks gorgeous, did I say striking, flawless should I go on. Well yes for she topped it with her new trendsetting hairstyle. Check out how many ladies (all races) are already sporting it….
I love this shade of blue on Michelle, although I am not sure about the dress. Photo by Getty. I also selected a photo of her in full black, with that popping hairstyle. Check out the boots arn’t they just tres cute! Photo by AP Image both on www.essence.com
What are you thinking fashionista’s? Are you liking all the casual, corporate and function appropriate attire?

I have to say ladies and gents although I love ‘Mrs O’ to bits, some of the above are definitely not hits for me.
Lets have your comments…I am sure they will be interesting
Talk soon Shaz

anyone can go to any cheep shop (made in china) and get clothing just like michelle obama. someone please tell her she is the FIRST BLACK WOMAN to be first lady of the WHITE HOUSE. Therefore her clothing should be one of a kind, at this moment lots of black women would lookup to her, especially in the fashion world. she looks very cheep, change must come,
Mrs. O is just fabulous, but as the cameera is always on her she has to be careful what she wears because the haters love to hate her. the blue dress is a nice colour but the style is too girlish. I love her regardless.
Mrs Obama looks great with that new haircut. I don’t particularly like most of her clothes, although there are a few nice pieces. That blue dress is monstrous on her. She already has wide hips and tiny breasts and it draws attention to her weak spots. The color is good but the style looks silly and schoolgirlish. I also think many of those high-waisted dresses look a bit too immature on her. Having said that, I admire her as a person and believe she is a great role model for all to emulate. Her clothes shouldn’t really matter much.
Whoever is advising Michelle on style is not earnng their money or doing her any favours. Many times she wears designs that I think were created with Sasha and Malia in mind. I think she was doing quite well choosing what she liked, without these people, when she first came on the scene back in 2008.
Leave the first lady alone, what do you mean she looks “cheep.” She is always fabulous. She is representing the country not only black women.
You morons this is an educated woman who wants to be taken serious for her deeds and not her fashion. Why is it more important for her to impress the well off with expensive garments than to elevate the downtroden poor with wise elegant but cheap dressing.
Have anyone ever read the story about the Emperors new clothes?
Love Michelle Obama HOWEVER I’m often taken aback at the “ordinaryness” of her attire. OK, the arms look good but the showing-them-off clothes looks like someone unable to buy enough material (b) Going to veterans’ lunch/elsewhere obviously braless is icky (c) Attending ceremonies (in Africa) looking like Ordinary-Jill-in-backyard while everyone is dressed in fabulous (ethnic) garb seem somewhat disrespectful.
Michelle dresses to please herself. She is a mature, self assured lady who realizes her presence on this earth is to help others not to be vain or silly. Most people on this earth live on less than a dollar a day, if she is setting an example and living her life in solidarity with them to me that is exemplary.
Why are we so obsessed with clothes? If she was wearing ultra expensive stuff you would all say that she is wasting too much on her wardrobe. Clothes isnt everything. She wears what she is comfortable in. Also, everyone has an ‘off’ day even if you are a fashionista….ppplllleeeassee!!!!!
Good day, I see all your articles, keep them coming.
Perhaps Barack and Michelle are destined to become to the 21st Century what JFK and Jacqueline were to the 20th.
I love Mrs O too, thanks for sharing this post.
