Hi there fashionistas…
Today I’m talking about Jean Paul Gaultier’s, new muse androgynous male model Andrej Pejic.
Pejic has played a prominent role in the last three fashion spectaculars from Gaultier… who over the years has treated us to much drama, exquisite creations and inspirational runway shows.
Naturally, his Haute Couture S/S 2011 show in Paris did not disappoint. It was spectacular!
I am going to assume that we’ve all seen Pejic on Gaultiers mens runway sporting long female inspired hairstyles. Perhaps this prompted Gaultier to place him alongside Karolina Kurkova in his Spring 2011 womens campaign (see below)…
Can you tell which one is the guy? For those of you who are not sure Pejic is in the fishnets and matching trench coat (photos courtesy of www.fashioning.com).
Last week, Pejic participated in the Haute Couture S/S 2011 Show, which was pure brilliance. In this show Pejic was the Bride….Yes you heard right, the Bride (see below).
So I’m asking you the question fashionistas… Are androgynous male models acceptable on the runways of the “noughties”?
Is this all about creating a hype to promote a product? Or is Gaultier reflecting all elements of the world we live in today (races, lifestyle choices etc) on the runway?
Where would you draw the line? Do you think we should draw the line? How do you regard this possible fashion trend?

Dude looks like a lady!
Not acceptable although condoned. How come these blogs are lacking comments. The blogs are an excellent avenue to share your thoughts and opinions.
I love the blogs, they are excellent with great stories. Keep up the great work bloggers.
Thanks for the kind words Sam
Lots of men have feminine features, why? They look like their mothers and the only reason u know they are men is they way they dress. I follow (to some extent) the major shows and I don’t have a problem with it.
There have been male models sent down the runway in skirts before and he was very masculine (bulging muscle and all) looking…As far as I see it he has a niche and it means more money and jobs for him.
Also, no one would bat an eye lid if it were a woman sent to model male clothing
Very true Niki! Celebs like David Beckham have worn a skirt Thanks for your contibution…
Enough confusion in the world. Let’s not tamper with the “gender” terms of reference. Keep the genders distinguishable.
