First Lady, Michelle ‘O’s Inauguration Fashion Frenzy…

Welome fashionista’s

No doubt, you  like me have been watching and listening to the World discuss Michelle Obama’s style choices on Inauguration day.  Hence the hit or miss statement yesterday.

So lets make a final statement on her Inauguration wardrobe.

The question I think we should consider is ‘Were emerging designers the way to go’? Yes and no is the answer.

Why?  Well read on…

Isabel Toledo’s golden yellow, wool lace sheath and coat I would say were a definite YES. (For you fashionista’s concerned that she must be cold, the coat was lined with cashmere and the dress with french silk. Smart and sexy!).  The choice of colour was perfect suggesting rejuvenation and optimism. Combined with the Jimmy Choo olive green pumps and olive green J Crew gloves she hit a ‘ home run’.

{A brief aside} I found it interesting how Michelle’s coat had a gold ribbon tie at the waist and that the girls also had ribbon ties at their waists.   This was tres chic for it unified the look the ‘Obama ladies’ were projecting. I wonder whose idea that was ….

Jason Wu’s gown was a NO in my opinion. The ivory chiffon gown was not to  the level of sophistication we have become used to from Michelle and that’s probably why the masses are not swooning over it.

That said the gown was definitely romantic and had a sort of fantasy element to it, which I liked.  The choice of colour shows she is definitely aware of trends as  this colour has graced a number of Red Carpet events.  (Look at the golden globes comments on this blog).

However I am sure comparisons will be made, as Jackie Onasis Kennedy also wore white to the Inauguration Ball.

The ‘First Lady’s’ choice of designers also supports the USA, as both designers are American. In a recession that cannot be a bad thing.

One thing that is certain is that Michelle Obama is a lady that wears the clothes and does not allow the clothes to wear her.

She has her own individualistic, self assured style.  This was very apparent during the day with the vintage necklace she wore.   In the evening  her multitude of bangles worn on one hand,  with a gorgeous circular ring and chandelier earrings – spoke to her confidence.

This fashion sophisticate has already defined a unique, iconic look.  It will be interesting to see how her style evolves over the coming months. Well I’ll be watching!

A tidbit for you fashionista’s.

Rumour has it she’ll be on the cover of  ‘American Vogue’ in the near future…..

Watch this blog and we’ll keep you informed.
