I have always advocated for making home cooked instead of buying prepared meals. It is often healthier and saves money.
The circumstances of a number of Jamaicans sometimes prevents them from following this advice. Often, although the ideal situation would be a home cooked meal some persons find that they are forced to purchase items as they are unable to cook.
If that is the case with you and your family are you doomed to a life of heavy spending?
Not if you dine out the right way!
It is important to prepare for the dining experience instead of just grabbing whatever is available. For example, spend a little time to do some scouting and identify several restaurants that offer your favourite meals and do a price comparison.
Some restaurants also have discounts if the meal is purchased at specific times of the day.
When eating out, pay attention to the specials for that day as it might have a reduced cost. Servings sizes are also a consideration as you could share them if they large enough instead of purchasing separate servings.
Being a regular customer might also qualify you for discounts so don’t be shy about informing the manager you have been eating at the restaurant on a regular basis.
Another way to save money is by sharing the cost of the bill by inviting family members or friends to dine with you.
Group rates at some eateries are lower than if you just bought a single meal.
So if you have to dine out just remember to do so only occasionally as you continue on your quest to be financially wise.
