Ironically, at this time of the year instead of enjoying the discounts offered at various stores, I am usually trying to save my money so that I don’t start the new year with any debts.
Of course, this does not mean that I don’t appreciate the sales when I see them advertised. Although there is a danger of using the money that I had so carefully put aside to take advantage of the bargains I can’t resist a sale.
Traditionally, Americans have a huge shopping day right after Thanksgiving and although we do not celebrate that holiday, shopping deals are universal.
The latest bargain days that have been heavily advertised in the media are November 27 – 29, 2014.
The Village and Mall plazas, Rapid True Value, in collaboration with The Gleaner Company, the National Commercial Bank (NCB), Power 106FM, and Music 99FM, will be staging the fifth annual ‘Black Friday Weekend Sale’ on the dates mentioned above.
Consumers flock stores on Black Friday
This event has attracted huge crowds in the past as prices were slashed in some cases up to 80%. There are also early bird discounts offered to shoppers who shop during the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The biggest drawback of the sales are the crowds. Although there will be legitimate shoppers, there will also be unscrupulous persons who will be looking to relieve unwary shoppers of their purchases.
The crowd usually increases as the day progresses, so that can be a little challenging to navigate, however if you find the bargains I am sure you won’t mind the inconvenience!
Shop Smarter
It is important though that consumers do not get carried away at the sales only to regret it the next day. It is a good idea to examine the items on sale for any defects as sometimes the sales are final.
It is a good start to the season, but remember to buy things that you need and keep your budget in mind.
So check out the sales and be safe!
