I remember when I got my first paycheque at my first job. I was ecstatic and I decided to celebrate by going on a shopping spree. Of course I was just as shocked when the money was all spent before the next pay cheque.
I am older now and much more financially aware, however I still face the same dilemma!
Where does the money go each month?
Paying Attention
Sometimes it’s a case of not paying attention. At times we spend on things that don’t seem all that expensive but end up costing us in the long run. For example, instead of buying prepaid credit for phone calls and Internet usage it might save money to explore post paid plans. That way you can place a limit on how much money you spend each month making calls and surfing the Internet.
It is also a good idea to check your cable bill, as a friend of mine was paying over $7000 a month for channels and she was hardly ever home. If you really want to access television shows, a number of them are streamed on the Internet. There are so many apps that allow you to watch television shows and movies right on your tablet or phone. If you have a smart box you can then stream them on your television.
What about your eating habits?
A lot of money is wasted on buying fast food. Not only is it not good for us but it eats away at our budget. It’s better to plan ahead so that even after a long day at work we can come home to a cooked healthy meal. There are slow cookers that allow meat to cook for a period of two to three hours if you are able to get someone to turn it on while you are at work. Then when you get home you can put on the finishing touches on the meal.
Buying to get a deal
Sometimes we buy things just because we feel it’s a steal. We don’t need it but the price was just too good to pass up. I once went to a store and saw a beautiful evening gown on sale. Although I had no immediate function to attend, I was tempted to buy it for some future event.
Often it’s important to check you are really getting a deal because I saw the same dress somewhere else much cheaper!
You can be sure I was glad that I hadn’t bought it!
So what’s your take on the issue? Let me hear from you!
