Circuit Racing: Kyle ‘Speedy’ Gregg’s title defense begins in April!

Prior to the beginning of the 2011 Circuit racing season, I sat and spoke with Kyle ‘Speedy’ Gregg. During our discussion, he indicated that one of his goals was to win the Driver’s Championship. I heard what he said and when placed in its appropriate context – considering his opponents – I thought then, that it was a tall order.

But, based on his domination, in 2010, of his class and subsequent Class Championship accolades, he came to the table with ample clout, which rendered his ambition more than plausible.

If I had doubts then, his performance on track, authorized by the first fluttering green flag, silenced those voices in a hurry. Kyle ‘Speedy’ Gregg drove off from where he parked in 2010, he raced to P1 repeatedly and secured all the points-paying positions required, to deliver what he was in pursuit of.

I spoke to Kyle in February (2012), in a rather spacious office, at his family’s business place – B.D. Gregg and Brothers Ltd – on South Camp Rd. and with the conspicuous Driver’s Champion trophy an arm’s length away, he indicated, without flinching, that he intends to defend, without fear or favour, his 2011 accomplishments. Do I doubt him this time? The season begins in April!
