Circuit Racing: Carnival of Speed at Dover – Easter Monday

Author : cmunroe

Easter is important for myriad reasons. Ask any Christian and the explanation will exit moving lips, without excusing any significant detail, the relevance of the season, while justifying why several days are set aside to recognise the unfortunate crucifixion, but subsequent, miraculous resurrection of Jesus Christ.

We (Jamaicans) are a God-fearing people and while we are mindful of what the season represents we also allocate time for other ‘extra-curricular’ activities, which will take center-stage once we have satisfactorily indulged in praise and worship.

Easter is also the season in which the Calypso, ‘waist-gyrating’ legion run amok with erotic dance expressions. So, if you are a Trini ‘wanna be’, Jouvert and terms of that ilk will keep you excited in the coming days. My interests and that of readers of these pages will be addressed by events which will unfold in salubrious , rural Jamaica.

The 2012 Circuit Racing season, will open its garage door and reveal the previously dormant beasts of speed this weekend. The reveal will be held at Dover Raceway, St Ann, in the health-enhancing atmosphere which the vegetation laden surroundings guarantees.

I would normally say the wait is over, but this time around, I wish I was in a position to reproduce the boxing announcer’s  intro – “Lets Get Ready To Rumbleeeeeee!”

Call it the Thriller In Manila! Whatever you want to call it- you choose the appropriate title. The battle which began last season, between arguably, our two best drivers at present, David ‘King’ Summerbell Jr and Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore, will resume, once the green flag escapes the clutches of the starter.

Doug, Adam and the Audi.

The 2011 season produced more drama than Lindsay Lohan at her controversial best. And while the main protagonists in our Circuit Racing reality series were locking horns and wheels, as they did at one Round, Kyle ‘Speedy’ Gregg was busy sneaking below the radar, amassing points, until he had enough to steal the crown!

Summerbell, Team and machine.

Kyle Gregg’s cards are on the table, he is the defending driver’s champion. Summerbell has a lot to regain, Doug Gore will try his Audi- inspired best to maintain the respect the Audi snatched from Summerbell  last season.

Kyle ‘chilling’.

The invitation demanding your presence is TOTAL-LY unnecessary because if you are on this page, I hope it means you will not miss the Carnival of Speed at Dover Raceway this Sunday and Monday (8th and 9th )
