At the previous Round in Malaysia, the machine said to be ugliest Ferrari ever, the F 2012, shelled the odds and won. The race will be remembered primarily for the drama and unexpected result it delivered, but it sprung a rather pleasant surprise.

The Mexican, Sergio Perez, took several steps forward and made a legitimate claim, suggesting that he is a driver to be reckoned with on the grid. Despite the treacherous race conditions which outfoxed regular ‘name-brand’ drivers, the newcomer to F1’s big stage, Perez, appeared cool, calm and calculating. He excelled in conditions that humbled others and if he was a tad bit more patient in attack mode, chances are he could have defeated eventual race-winner, Alonso, as well.

Sergio Perez, at present, has more points than the reigning World Champion, Sebastian Vettel. Once may be said to be a fluke. Can he (Perez) deliver another jaw dropping performance? The 2012 F1 UBS Chinese GP is this weekend.
