Another Epic in Germany ! Part 2 of 2

Statements made by Fiat Yamaha’s race director during the week prior to the race, indicated that there was some amount of tension in the Yamaha camp, relating to various issues, including Lorenzo’s contract and who was the number one rider (in the team-Yamaha).

Riding in second position behind Rossi, I am almost certain that thoughts of the week’s events must have played out in the mind of the young, brash Lorenzo. Possibly he was motivated even more. It took him a few laps but, with a confident maneuver Lorenzo took the lead going into turn 1 at the end of the start-finish straight. Five laps to go.

Rossi enjoys a challenge, no let me rephrase, Rossi lives for a challenge! Any threat to his supremacy is usually met head on, with no indication of submission or defeat. He will ride the machine to a limit yet to be discovered, inorder to extinguish any flame which threatens his dominance.

Superhuman

I am convinced that the commentators at the races do not understand the state of the man who is Valentino Rossi. I will tell you why. When Lorenzo passed Rossi, the excited commentator, had the nerve to suggest that it would take a superhuman effort by Rossi to get by Lorenzo (suggesting that it was almost impossible). As I heard it I sat up, because he obviously did not remember that Valentino Rossi was not human, he is superhuman! The Saschenring circuit is a challenging race track and even the riders admit that it is very difficult to overtake (at the Saschenring). Valentino Rossi was not aware of such a difficulty.

With 2 laps remaining in the German Grand Prix, at the magnificent Saschenring circuit, the Doctor (Rossi) injected the patient (Lorenzo) and put him to sleep! Rossi passed Lorenzo on a ‘loose bike’, going into turn 1, under braking, with his right leg extended and left him for dead in the same turn. Rossi loves a loose bike. He loves when the bike is slipping and sliding everywhere, which happens when the bike has a very light fuel load and tyres are losing grip! Now, if that is the type of bike you love, superhuman skills are a must have (especially in MotoGP) because that is when the bike is most difficult to control.

Having passed Lorenzo, Rossi brought the hammer down. The hammer went down repeatedly as Rossi clocked 290+ km/hr down the straight-finish straight. Lorenzo tried, but he was not close enough and when he tried to pass Rossi at the end of the start-finish straight (where Rossi passed him), Rossi slammed the door shut. With no tricks left in his engine and no aces in his deck Lorenzo had to accept his fate and watch Rossi as he crossed the finish line, confirming his position as number 1, both on the track and in the team !
