Drag racing fans are gearing up for another round of the Vengeance series held at the JamWest Speedway in Little London, Westmoreland. If the two previous rounds are anything to go by, I wouldn’t want to miss this round.
There is usually a buzz of activity leading up to the event and for Vengeance III, it is no different. I am usually at Probe Tech, which is next to King Midas Mufflers on Derrymore road and the heightened activity, as it relates to performance cars or modified cars (race cars) visiting the shop is usually an indicator that there is a race meet around the corner.
If you pass through the dyno you will see a similar scenario. I went to the dyno on Saturday night and while we were there, there was constant talk of the meet ahead and also who was making power, who wasn’t and so on. During the discussion, after ‘Chungie’ completed tuning the boosted Type R which we brought there, a Nismo monster of a car took to the dyno. The turbo on that car could easily flow enough air to power a – no – two Mack trucks, laden with wet sand, up Spur Tree hill. The owner of the car is from Ocho Rios and he was repeatedly asked if he was preparing to beat either ‘Spoon’ or Seymour. One thing is certain, the car is being prepared for Jamwest and the Nissan fans will be quite pleased.
Let me not digress. Vengeance II was an organizers dream, in terms of the administrative aspects of the meet and fortunately the weather held and as a I stated in the article, the meet ended before night fall and the usual chaos which normally prevails at the end of the meet, traffic jam, etc. was non- existent.
The performance on the track, justified the entry fee and delivered much more than was expected. Brinn Morgan, Craig Lue ,’Spoon’,’ Haggi,’ Kirk Lee, the Cayman Skyline driven by Patrick and the Wayne Martin driven Toyota Supra and others, all contributed to an entertaining race meet. A race meet which saw Craig Lue cracking three nine seconds passes in his very powerful Evo VII !
Based on the word on the streets, the various camps are aiming for significantly lower times and nothing is being left to chance. The Toyota Corolla with two engines was noticeably absent from the last meet, but it was spotted at Lakes Pen last Sunday going through its paces, so possibly it will be able to bring the fight that was promised last meet, to Craig Lue. We all know Craig Lue and if he has a problem free meet, we may all be singing an eight seconds song !
Vengeance II raised the bar that much higher, but with serious preparations being made to better their previous performances, the competitors in the various classes are bent on making the third in the series, the best yet !
