Years ago when I was a regular at Premiere League football matches, I found Waterhouse FC’s approach to the sport rather refreshing. In the days of the Hugh ‘Bingie’ Blair squad, football was more than a game. It was a sport, yes, but its greater significance permeated every nook and cranny in the community. Football built bridges of understanding between warring factions and where disputes would create massive wounds, football would apply instant healing. The team chant / motto/ slogan – Unity is Strength – was embraced by all and it served to strengthen the community.
For reasons not yet publicized, Drag Racers and Circuit Racers exist in a Last Man Standing – type environment. Despite both sets of racers’ blind commitment to the quest for speed, the manner in which they approach their goal is different and somewhere in the bundled confusion they became enemies.
Unity is on the horizon though and Vernamfield will be theĀ test-bed for harmonious existence between both factions,
The tentative list of competitors I received From Dean Corrodus indicates that we are in for a cracker!
The grand gala dubbed Vernamfield Rebirth, scheduled for Sunday (30th) boasts the coming together of 2 sworn enemies – Tarmac Sprint and Drag Racing. The fact that the union is real is miraculous in itself but the treat does not end there – there is more – there is a bonus!
The season-finale at Dover Raceway for circuit racers is just around the Carib Cement corner. Be it resolved that the best way to prepare for combat is to engage in combat! Circuit racers have embraced Confucius’ teachings and will invade Vernamfield on Sunday to mate slicks with concrete.
I was sent a list of possible entrants and I am still in the process of confirming who will be present. But typical Jamaican behaviour will also prevail and according to Dean Corrodus, we will never really know the final list of competitors until the morning of the event. Sucks, but that is how it is.
So, for now, bear this in mind – if all goes well be prepared to see these machines distort concrete with electrifying speed! Can you identify who drives each of the following machines?
Machine 1.
Machine 2
Machine 3
Machine 4
More to come. Be patient drag racers. Unity, remember, unity!
