Rally Jamaica 2012 – 4 days after

Author : cmunroe

I cant believe that Rally Jamaica 2012 is almost 1 week old. It is now 4 days since the fete ended. The event which rally fans across the island anticipate with held-breath came and went with the ferocity of a WRC machine flying through Finland!

Rally Jamaica 2012 had its own mini Finland, in agricultural surroundings in St Catherine. The stages were not Finland fast, but they were rather challenging. The benign-appearing stages developed into malignant vermin and struck quite a few teams on Day 1.

I was not present on the stages for Day 1, so I had to survive off a reported diet. For Day 2, I visited the stages early, took a few snaps and then waited for the Downtown invasion. The Downtown stages and the ‘Car Crazy’ culture I witnessed deserve their own story, so that will not be done in a bit.

This is still a beautiful Evo – on the streets Downtown? Crazy powerslides !!

Spoke to a rally marshal on Sunday and learnt about the Subaru’s demise – roll and fire not a good combination!

On one stage when Jeffery blew by, a fan said “a so car fi drive!” He cruised to  P1.

Age is just a number. Morley proves this every year he competes.

Matthew lost time at the start of this stage and his navigator was burnt by super-hot radiator fluid , but as he (Matthew) said “All I want to do is finish this rally”. The ‘navi’ stuck to the task. Big up yute!

Joel Jackson suggested pre-rally that nothing much was to be expected of him. It was an act of deception! Some are saying he delivered the drive of the rally.

More to come.

NB. Dean Corrodus sent me an e-mail indicating that the Drag racing and Circuit event that was scheduled for Jamwest this weekend has been rescheduled to next weekend!
