Circuit Racing:Expect fireworks at Dover this weekend!

Author : cmunroe

According to my watch – I don’t have a watch – according to ‘flashlight phone’ the, (cliche approaching), moment we have all been waiting for since October of 2012, will be among us. The typical dancehall announcer would say – it is here again for the first time (yes) when the JRDC as …… and ……..    as ………… presents a 2 day event called the Carnival of Speed and the announcement would continue, while the patrons wait patiently to resume their gyrating.

But this is no dance. This is motor racing at its self-appointed best on local soil. Dover Raceway and every living and breathing thing in its environs will come alive when the piston-driven army sets up camp and executes numerous missions of speed and precision around a deceptive foe – the 1.6 mile adrenalin rush which is Dover Raceway.

The stakes are huge, massive I tell you, gargantuan, as my female, executioner friend from Kill Bill Vol. 2 would say. The high rollers will be doing just that – rolling out. We have seen Doug’s DTM machine. David parked his 2013 TA1 in Mobay – and sent numerous shameless threats!

Peter ‘Zoom Zoom’ Rae

News on the ground that Sebastian Rae will be piloting the notorious Magnum is a story in itself.

Sebastian Rae’s 2012 machine.

Peter ‘Zoom Zoom’ Rae is definitely not ready to be booted out by the young guns and with his current pace being what it is, according to ‘observers’ he was forced to lift at Jamwest to avoid a crawling DTM Audi TT-R, he is like a gun for hire, willing to eliminate the ‘top dogs’.

Kyle Gregg

Kyle Gregg, who I spoke to recently is still regretting missing out on the overall Drivers title and despite retaining the same machine, the Honda Civic (EG) – it was being said that he had acquired a new machine – the MAD built platform will be seeking to inflict further fatal blows on those not wearing a H badge!

Natasha ‘Chiney Dolly’ Chang

Natasha ‘Chiney Dolly’ Chang  made her mark and bruised some egos in 2012.

‘Chiney Dolly

Her chief designer/engineer Raj Jadusing was spotted at Jamwest supervising the effort and all things being equal the mandate has not changed. So, gentlemen beware, there is a ……… on the loose and she has no respect for gender! She will hit you, where even in 2013, it hurts!

But and there is a but – which new talent will emerge in 2013? Which machine will destabilise the status quo? Who will force the ‘name-brand’ drivers to sit up and take notice? We all want to know but we will have to wait.

Chris ‘Teach’ McFarlane

I spoke to Chris ‘Teach’ McFarlane a few days before Circuit Attack in Jamwest. I asked him about his unopposed run for President of the JRDC. During our conversation, he admitted that he had inherited a vibrant club, thanks to the efforts of others before (big up Marck Carey and his exec), but his tenure, he said was about “Building the sport”. ‘Teach’ said that at the events for this year, the focus, to some extent, is on a complete entertainment package, it is about “Creating a show”.

I saw him at work, at Jamwest, rather early and there are some new initiatives floating around already, for example, the presold Dover tickets etc. He has, according to Hilary Jardine, an excellent group of youngsters working with, so the JRDC exec. is definitely off to a cracking start.

The Carnival of Speed (Sunday – Monday) is the season opener, but it is also the first test, re what we should expect for the 2013 season. It is also the new President’s first big event. I am expecting fireworks at Dover this weekend! What are you expecting?
