The early bird, they say gets the (best) worm. Boys Scouts have a motto which serves them well – it is brief, but profound – Be Prepared! Preparation, is not calculus, it is not UWI Statistics – which has an incredible failure rate, it simply requires attention to all things important – check once, check again.
Some teams take no chances and as such, since we do not have a F1 type setting – a ban on testing – teams do not hesitate to lap away at the 1.6 mile, nature lovers retreat – Dover Raceway.
We spend far too much time concentrating on the ‘big guns’, the little teams put in as much effort and should be recognised. Based on fan-based reports, some teams are already at the track, trying to ensure that their T’s are crossed and their I’s dotted, before the mad scramble adopts full swing sometime today.
One team which was said to be present at the track, is the Williams clan. The last time I saw them at Dover, what was previously an immaculate, jaw-dropping Nissan Silvia, with all the appropriate weaponry, was reduced to a disfigured model, courtesy of roof mating with asphalt!
They are back (the Williams brothers) and I guess they are just trying to ensure that they have gained positively from their mishap. It is suggested that the machine – a Nissan Pulsar N14 – will be piloted by the younger brother, Kishore. I saw the machine many moons ago at the dyno being subjected to operations manipulation, guided by one of the new kids on the tuner block, Ken T.
Apparently the machine is now ready for combat and just to ensure that driver and machine are communicating at the level required to gain success, the team is already at the track, digging into the VV-L’s attributes. How will they race. We will know in a matter of days!
