Circuit Racing: Drivers – Start your engines! (CMRC Round 1)

Author : cmunroe

The circuit racing season on the ‘rock’ has 4 events. Each race is unique and has its own jerk seasoning. But, if I was asked to choose 1 event, from the 4, that I would love to attend, the Round which commences officially today, (Saturday) would win, like JRDC President, Chris’ Teach’ McFarlane – without contest!

Round 1 of the CMRC will push the start button today as the machines line up for qualifying in their respective classes. The Caribbean will be on show at Dover for two days. Fans will see some of the best machines in the Caribbean, but they are not here for fun and games. Reality forces perspective and despite their innocuous exterior, the machines from lands beyond our shores are here with one game plan – defeat the Jamaicans!

Will they be allowed to even glimpse a blade of success? I will allow David ‘King’ Summerbell Jr. Doug ‘Holllywood’ Gore, Peter ‘Zoom Zoom’ Rae and all the other members of the roots-rocking Reggae Racers speed squadron, to answer the question, on track, at Dover Raceway.

Kyle ‘Speedy’ Gregg

I saw Group 2 representative Kyle ‘Speedy’ Gregg on Tuesday. He is in high spirits and he is obviously eager to put the foot down, to defend his country’s honour. His machine – Total B D Gregg and Brothers Honda Civic needs no introduction. It is arguably the quickest naturally aspirated Honda in the Caribbean! And when Kyle sits in the seat, a weapon with a devastating arsenal comes alive. I shudder to think of the hammer he will be wielding when he crushes the opposition.

But wait, there is more, 12 events are listed for Saturday and 14 for Sunday. And somewhere in the midst of the celebration of speed -  guess what? Warlord in the Building! Bounty Killer, the countless star General, will bring his version of what we love about being Jamaican to the fans at Dover.

I can warn you, I can try to prepare you but, I am forced to ask – Do you want a memorable motorsports experience? Do you want to see one of Reggae’s emerging icons in action? A leisurely drive to Dover Raceway Saturday and Sunday will deliver both. The festivities begin today! Drivers – Start your engines!
