MotoGP: ‘Wunderkid’ Marquez heads to Laguna Seca!

If you are a MotoGP fan, you should, by now, recognise that you these are the best of times. I am a firm believer in – when one door closes, another opens. I can recall the chaos and bouts of concern raised in 2012, when it became clear that the sports’ biggest superstar, and defending World Champion, Casey Stoner, was planning to hang his leathers on a dormant nail in his closet!

Stoner’s announcement rang like the Hollywood blockbuster 2012 – it was – at least in the minds of many, the  end of the world!

Marquez

But a ‘wunderchild’ was born and Marc Marquez was his name. His significance to the 2013 season is still being written, but his impact, thus far is the stuff of legend. At the most recent Round in Germany, similar injuries sidelined defending champion Lorenzo and championship- hopeful Pedrosa.

The opportunity to claim control of the championship was far too tempting for  Marquez to ignore. The true mark of a champion, the experts will tell you, is the ability to seize the moment and rise to the occasion, if the situation requires a ‘clutch’ performance. Think of the feats of Lebron James in the recently concluded NBA Championship and my point should be water clear!

The ‘wunderkid’ mutilated the bold and brave in Germany and rose to P1 on the leader-board. Ambition, however, will fight through any sport-related pain threshold. Pedrosa and Lorenzo are not happy with the current state of affairs and understandably so. Marquez leads the championship by a narrow margin- 2 points – ahead of Pedrosa with Lorenzo chasing, breathless, in third, 11 points behind Marquez.

Remember the injuries I told you they had? They are no longer significant. Wunderkid Marquez and the MotoGP gang, head to Laguna Seca, USA, this weekend. Lorenzo and Pedrosa will be in the building and I am willing to bet,  both will be on-track. Pain? What pain?

Marquez will be facing the notorious corkscrew for the first time at this level and with a 200 mph pack chasing his Repsol Honda, this weekend should be interesting.

Are you brave enough to pick a winner?

Drag Racing

Incidentally, I gather that drag racing will return to Vernamfield, apparently, in an official capacity, on the 28th of July. More on this on Friday!
