Formula 1: Vettel brings F1 into disrepute!

I cannot recall the last time I sat and watched a F1 race in its entirety. Unfortunately, I have made the conscious effort not to. If I was a betting man, chances are I would be a happy, wealthy man. But, now that I think about it, if my understanding of betting and odds are even close to being accurate, I am somehow thinking that I would not be earning much, despite winning, because even the odds understand what is happening and can foresee the ruinous nature of the current F1 reality.

It should not be difficult to figure out the obvious – I have a serious problem! My problem manifests itself in the shape and form of F1′s defending World Champion – Sebastian Vettel.

The first time he won the championship, I was happy for him. The second time he won, I was even happier for him. The third time he won the championship I was in the middle of what has mushroomed into chaotic cocktail of mixed emotions, generated by my fear of the future. Well, the future is here!

Bernie’s theme park landed in a place which has possibly more millionaires per sq inch than any other place on the face of the earth- the city state – Singapore. A spectacle was promised, one which would feature feats laden with unmatched bravery! But a loose cannon was parked in the midst with definite designs to wreck Bernie’s plan.

Vettel

The loose cannon is none other Sebastian Vettel. He has done it all, in what must be considered, record time and we are now witnessing the petrol-fed pace that his 2013 assault has now adopted. I am honestly concerned about his opponents. Bouts of inadequacy must be stinging them like continuous nibbles from a gaggle of  ‘red peggy’ ants!

Vettel is busy plotting the path to his 4th championship and while the others on the grid try to comprehend the chess-like moves of the master, he simply executes in a meticulous, thorough victory-enhancing manner.

In Singapore, on Sunday, Vettel brought his own time zone  and like a hermit, he was alone. Rosberg who started next to Red Bull’s number one driver, was actually ahead, approaching corner 1, but somewhere between corner entry and exit he stepped on his diaper and paid dearly for his lapse in thought – Vettel weaved by and regained P1.

I usually watch the early and the final portions of the race. And when Vettel hits the front, unless there is some divine interference, you can put your money where your heart is. Vettel exited corner 1 and that was it – gone with the wind in his Red Bull machine.

Red Bull – gives you wings – or so it is said, but on race day in Singapore, Red Bull apparently gave out jet engines! Nothing else will begin to explain how he was able to rocket away from the field, leading by almost 2 seconds at the end of lap 1!

Vettel’s dominance is obvious for Adam, Eve and everyone else to see, but being able to pick the winner from lap 1, in my view, is not healthy for the sport. In Singapore, Alonso who grabbed P2, thanks to a Flash-Gordon type start and fortune shining his way, was some 30 plus seconds behind Vettel! The prancing horses were performing like their cousins – donkeys!

Vettel now leads the championship with 247 points. His nearest rival, Alonso is second with 187 points. That is a 60 point gap! Hamilton, who is highly respected on the grid, sits in third, with 151 points – almost 100 points behind Vettel!

Seriously though, I am thinking that Vettel brings F1 into disrepute!
