Circuit Racing: The heroes came out to play at Dover!

Author : cmunroe

I was not encouraged when I saw the few machines that were in attendance at the practice session at Dover on Sunday when we arrived at the track. I was further disheartened when I overheard a conversation Verdayne Wallace was having with an concerned fan early Monday morning. Verdayne’s assessment, re the obvious absence of machines expected, left me in a distressed state. But, somewhere buried in his words, while he jokingly argued with the young lady at the food stand for an additional slice of pear (he was buying breakfast), was hope and that I had a lot of!

The day idled along, as if an important race meet was not on the schedule but eventually our spirits were raised and what the masses came to see – door to door, no holds barred, clutch-kicking, accelerator-slamming racing, rocked the house at Dover.

It is late and I must admit that the condition I will now refer to as – tired – is an associate of mine at present. So, until the additional update flows from my weary fingers, know this – the heroes did come out to play and a wonderful time was had by all in attendance (unless their driver was on the wrong side of the winning flag).

Chances are I was deceived, but the ‘Banana’, inĀ  my view, was a few notches from its performance at the last meet.

Andre Anderson, apparently was not pleased with the pressure he had to endure at the last outing. He made no mistake this trip – he was leagues ahead of his rivals in class and at one stage I saw him serving a plate of ‘whop ass’ to Matthew Gore’s Evo X!

Kyle Gregg had engine issues, I was told, so for Alan Chen, Christmas came early. He was handing out presents!

The story relating to the ‘King’ and his exploits need its own page. But, ladies and gentlemen, I cannot think of another motorsports personality on the local scene who is adored by the thousands who I heard screaming his support. The ‘King’ reigns!

My Heroes Day was well spent – more to come!
