MotoGP: Marquez triumphs in Austin

It was an all Honda front row – Marquez on pole (DUH!) supported by Dani Pedrosa –P2. Lorenzo and Rossi were somewhere in the pack. Lorenzo’s catastrophic start to the season apparently has not ended. His misery has a relentless quality! At Round 2, Lorenzo had what athletes call a false-start. Long before the red lights even hinted departure, nerves bit Lorenzo and he moved – it was so obvious, he simply continued. My negro friends would say – ‘bad luck wussa dan obeah! He was not a factor at Round 1 and he removed himself from contention before the race even began at Round 2!

Marquez got a good start and even though he was second entering corner 1, Marquez was in control. The 2 Honda Boyz rode off into the sunset, so the battle was for – ‘what lef’. Rossi ‘the Doctor’ was on a mission and drop-kicked a few riders as he made his way to P4, but for reasons not yet clear, a spanner was hurled into his plan – his race ended P8.

Lorenzo

Lorenzo served his ride-through penalty, dug deep and rode into a points paying position. He came through the pack and rode into the top ten – he claimed P10.

Marquez was as much as 5 seconds ahead of Pedrosa – the battle was always for P3 involving Iannone, Dovizioso and Bradl. Smith tried to enter the fray but despite his valiant effort Bradl would have none of it and while they fought ‘Dovi’ got the chance to secure P3.

But, in Austin brilliance was on display in the shape and form of the defending World Champion – Marc Marquez. Marquez is now 2 from 2. The MotoGP grid must be worried!
