Nestle Supligen Drag Racing Series – Boost onboard!

Author : cmunroe

Is it a coincidence that the NDRC’s 2014 drag racing series sponsor – Nestle Supligen- has a slogan which reads – Supligen – Boost you up!The fact that boost is one of those terms which is omnipresent at every drag racing event makes the union a match made in drag racing heaven. A better, or more appropriate series sponsor could have been found nowhere!

The pre-race activities, for the first event in the Nestle Supligen Drag Racing Series held at Vernamfield on Sunday March 30, in my view, were largely responsible for the massive competitor and spectator turnout that was evident at the venue when we arrived. The PR campaign worked. Drag racing machines on display and a mini- demonstration on the streets of New Kingston were the aces in deck of cards though. An exciting way of doing the same things will always arouse interest and desire, either to be present or participate.

I cannot recall a drag racing event at Vernamfield held recently which received the gargantuan support we saw. Available parking areas were overflowing with every performance machine you can think off and in the paddock the story was even worse, but better for the spectators. Drag racers apparently could fast no more and to show that they were grateful to see the back of their hibernation period, they took every bought, built or borrowed machine they could find and swore that they would decimate the stubborn asphalt at Vernamfield with blistering 1/4 mile times. According to Stephen Gunter there were 134 qualifiers in 8 different classes! The event – ‘sell off’!

I saw this machine at the dyno prior to the event. According to those who saw and heard it, the Blue Demon had a propensity to entertain, using the flame thrower beneath the bonnet – notice opening in bonnet.

Keeping the EG theme – a more subdued and civilized member of the Honda EG family.

8 am – Collect tuxedo, 8:30 am – barber, 10am – arrive at Vernamfield – RACE!! 7pm – tell the board members about all the fun I had!

This collection of assorted metals and wires possess the ability to propel the machine to sub-10 seconds during a 1/4 mile blast! Banks’ machine.

Listen. Everyone is watching. Do not stall the da.. car!

There was a time when I ruled the world. Those were the days!

This is one occasion when it is politically correct to say – your lip is huge!

A lot of events are advertised as family oriented. NDRC delivered! With various rides, slides, etc. to choose from, the children had more fun than their burdened parents!

It is always a pleasure to see a Nissan Skyline honoring its heritage. But, wait, there is more….

When I win the lotto….

This machine – fast even when parked!

The NDRC has shown that it has the prequisite substance, that executing a high quality race-meet, demands. The attendance at their events to close 2013 was confirmation of the endorsement that fans have given the organization. At the first event in the Nestle Supligen Drag Racing Series, the competitors were not shy. They wasted very little time and pedal was indeed introduced to metal in rather abusive ways. The atmosphere was bloated with pleasure and sustained by ferocious machines. And as was expected by individuals who are aware of the project’s progress, the BadBreed Racecraft machine hammered the concrete into humiliating submission with an eye-popping 8.6 et – a NDRC record run!

At times when we are overcome with joy we weep. I guess that was what was happening when the heavens opened and brought the event to a premature end. We had a blast! With boost on board, we eagerly await the next event.
