Drifters threaten to upstage race-car drivers!

On Saturday the scenes at Dover Raceway followed the typical visual cues one would expect at a qualifying session. The race-cars were at there usual spots, being checked with a surgeon’s exactness to ensure that when pedal is sent to metal, by a pole- chasing right foot, the machine maintains it’s reliable status. So, when I heard the constant rhythmic vibrations of revving machines,I was not surprised. As I casually strolled through the paddock my been there and done that attitude was slapped for six! What was the source of my humbling moment? In an area which would, at this Round, normally be occupied by our ambitious Caribbean neighbors (CMRC), I encountered a bevy of gorgeous machines!

Without close inspection, it was evident that they were the drift-monsters the young lady from Nu Gen Motorsportz told me about. The motors which were chosen to incinerate rear tires posed a mouth-watering prospect – LS motors, 1/2 JZ and a S2000 motor rocking a trick manifold and crazy boost! My delight flowed like an untrained river! The visual impact of the machines left me wounded like Holyfield’s ear after the Tyson fight! When they eventually visited the track to complete a demonstration run, the cycle of heightened excitement was complete! The weapons of mass destruction that the Americans went searching for in Iraq, were at Dover and raised hell on Saturday. Have you ever heard of an aural orgasm? That is what you experience when you mate LS machines with a S2000 demon which consumes boost, plus VTEC, drifting with sublime mastery through several of Dover’s intimidating corners.

I assure you, you have seen or heard nothing similar in Jamaica! I am only hoping that you are in a position to come to Dover, but, prepare to be blown away by drifting – the ‘foreign’ edition!
