Formula One: Schumacher’s return

Author : cmunroe

Michael Schumacher will return to Formula 1 at the European Grand Prix in August (’09). I have read where persons are expressing concern about his fitness, his neck injury, how his return may affect his career and if he can quickly adjust to the differences between the present car and the car he was accustomed to.
Do you honestly think that the challenge driven Michael Schumacher would cease his training regiment because he was no longer preparing for a championship? Reports have surfaced, confirming that despite Formula 1’s testing ban, Michael Schumacher is busy lapping Ferrari’s test track in the 2007 car, completing 70 plus laps in preparation for his return.

Ross Brawn

The paragraphs above were a part of the blog – Interesting times in Formula 1, written when Michael was preparing to replace the injured Felipe Massa. It did not materialize due to concerns relating to a neck injury Michael suffered earlier, but all a fire needs is a spark. That missed opportunity ignited a bonfire of desire within Formula One’s winningest driver and a phone call with an offer from Ross Brawn, team principal of the new Mercedes Grand Prix team was too delectable to refuse.

So Schumacher, the driving machine, is now with the team that won both the drivers and constructors titles in ’09 and as such failure is not an option. I do not doubt his ability and according to reports, when asked how confident he was of Schumacher’s ability to deliver, Ross Brawn suggested that Schumacher indicated that he can do it and he trusts him completely.

The only question which remains is – will he actually deliver? Interesting times are definitely ahead for the 2010 Formula One season!
