Drag Racing: Concrete will buckle this Sunday!

There was a time when life was rather simple and straightforward. Words did not require a university-based education to decipher their correct meaning. But, technology and the creatures it creates, have conspired and a new, advanced language has arrived. And if you are not in the company of a vibrant youngster who has not attained a dozen years, you will be clueless when you attempt to translate what appears to be a blend of consonants – a text message!

Times have changed, but we are resilient and like a student at JAMAL, we will overcome the challenges. Here is a test – What is Panther Black Metallic?

Fortunately, we can choose our battles and a more important battle is looming. On Sunday, May 17th the anointed concrete at Vernamfield will be put to yet another test. The Nestle Supligen drag racing machines will, for the second time in 2015, unleash their version of plunder and mayhem, which when paired together, infect the patrons with bouts of unrestrained, adrenalin-charged pleasure!

At the first edition, in March, rain reared its wet head, but, the fans stood their ground and their unified effort found favor with the Heaven Boss! The clouds kept their liquid cargo and drag racers partied! The speed-fete allowed machines prone to violence to take center stage! The Williams camp shook the concrete with a nine seconds pass, creeping towards eight seconds! Buju’s machine journeyed from the west and claimed the best – won the 10 seconds class! Xavia Murray – the M.A.D. Boss went on a destructive rampage – executing machines at will with a wonder- weapon! Fans were dumbstruck when they realised that his machine was drug-free – an all natural Honda!

It goes without saying that the competitors delivered a MGM Grand- type show. The machines came to rumble and that they did willingly. Sunday will be no different. I am willing to bet that a lot more will be offered, bearing in mind that the hunters who were victorious at Round 1, will now be the hunted!

Scores will be settled, grudges will come to the fore and the weak will be eliminated. The wounded will be terminated, the unprepared will be devoured and only the fittest and the fastest beasts will claim victory. The concrete has survived all that drag racers have thrown at it in the past, but I am not certain if it is prepared for the mutiny being planned! Concrete – be prepared to buckle on Sunday!
