Drag Challenge #3 – Cayman Invasion?

Author : cmunroe

Many moons ago I had the privilege of visiting the Cayman Islands. I am fully aware that the Caribbean is comprised of islands which represent rather minute dots on the map but I was rather amused when I realised how tiny a dot Grand Cayman is! Caymanians, however, are an extremely proud bunch and motorsports is dear to their hearts! I am willing to bet that they have more ‘fast cars’ per square km than any other Caribbean territory!

Space frowns at the Cayman Islands though . I can recall being told that we were going to the races, at a location refered to as West End. Somehow the name painted a picture of a lengthy journey – think Kingston to Westmoreland. So I jumped in the machine, we roared away and then we stopped! West End!

History has shown that we (Jamaica and Cayman) share a unique relationship. The politics has changed but sharing remains – we are still partners in speed! Rather rapid machines exist in Cayman but the appropriate facilities to explore speed are not readily available.

So the machines are reluctantly forced to restrain their cheetah-like legs! A problem which possibly led to many sleepless nights for frustrated racers in Cayman who desired more than 1/8 mile to attain the desired ‘high’. A brilliant mind informed them that Jamaica is at the forefront with drag racing facilities in the Caribbean! The Caymanians took the advice, assembled several dragstrip terrorists and shelled Jamwest!

Several Caymanians have made Jamaica their drag racing home and they can be seen at Vernamfield and Jamwest directing their potent machines to low elapsed times.
Michael Williams and Kenrick Baker – Caymanians – compete in the Nestle Supligen Drag Racing Series. Their machines are laser-guided missiles, ‘locked’ on the competition in their respective classes ( 9 and 10 seconds classes) and capable of incomprehensible, atom-distorting speed!

Tales of their exploits have possibly made them heroes on their tiny dot and their feats, apparently, gave rise to envy’s green eye! At Drag Challenge #3 (July 26th) – the Cayman family will increase by three !

According to the information I read, 3 horrifying machines, capable of John Force-type mayhem, have landed on our shores and they have a single, but frightening objective – decapitate any machine that poses a threat in their class. I will refer to them as the Evil Trio – a Mitsubishi Evo X, a turbocharged Honda Civic and Godzilla, in unrestricted attire – a Nissan Skyline! They are armed. They are dangerous. How will they perform at Drag Challenge #3?
