Circuit Racing: Emancipation of Speed – from the driver’s seat!

Author : cmunroe

It is my view that we should express appreciation for the hard work done by the unpaid individuals who promote Jamaican motorsports. They are on no one’s payroll. They endure the elements, wear a smile and release their handiwork simply because they have an unyielding passion for the sport.

Modern technology has allowed us to view motorsports through various mediums and in different formats. I will not pretend as if we did not have access to videos of local motorsports events in the various disciplines. But, what was not readily available, to the public, on the scale it is now, is the behind the steering perspective – sharing the windscreen with the tenacious driver, grabbing the next apex and dive-bombing the competitor!

Like a shower of rain to a parched desert, Dayne ‘Stoppa’ Cork is a welcome addition to the motorsports fraternity. He has made himself available to assist not only the JRDC, competitors have also benefited from his efforts. What I am grateful for though is the in-car footage which he has recorded of circuit racers at both Dover Raceway and Jamwest Speedway. If you compete at Dover or Jamwest there are lessons to be learnt from these videos. If you have never raced at either facility, but you are a motorsports fan, I encourage you to embrace the vicarious existence!

Jamwest Speedway was a blast for the fortunate drivers who had the opportunity to compete at the Emancipation of Speed. I have watched these videos repeatedly. Which machine are you most impressed by? Do you see a driver to watch?

Thanks Dayne ‘Stoppa’ Cork. Big up - ‘Monti’, ‘Mikey Spice’ and everyone else involved in the Sahara-sun and itching grass dance inorder to snap the perfect shot!
