So, despite the dispute relating to when racing began at Dover Raceway, the celebration will proceed as planned. On Monday, October 19th, 25 years of memorable moments, 25 years of colorful characters, 25 years of cataclysmic rivalries, 25 years of unyielding commitment and ultimately, 25 years of blistering, one- tracked, victory-chasing speed will be honored, recognized and continued at Dover on Heroes Day!
In motorsports, you cannot separate man from machine and at times, the machines (race-cars), are even more notorious and easier to recognize than the warriors who wrestle them to victory. Dover has seen its share of record-shattering, awe-inspiring and downright, frightening machines! The list knows no end and when we celebrate the accomplishments of those drivers who have left the grid, we will not lose sight of the machines that brought continuous waves of unbridled fulfillment!
What has changed in the tumultuous years that have elapsed since racing tires met a prepared surface at Dover? Reality dictates that a single answer is forthcoming – nothing! Absolutely nothing has changed!
As we speak, machines are being prepared for numerous laps of mechanized warfare! A lot is at stake. Championships are being chased, pride must be defended, honor restored, modifications justified, victory claimed and supremacy established. So it was then, so it remains today and we are thankful.
On Monday, petrol-heads who are fortunate to call this gem of an island, home, will participate in a widespread invasion of Dover Raceway. Speed is a drug to which we are proud addicts and on Monday, if we accept the pre-race happenings, we will all be trapped in a speed-induced trance!
Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore has Dover’s lap record in his back-pocket. David Summerbell Jr seeks to retain what his camp will tell you is rightfully his! They have not met, on track, in full-flight, for 2015. On Monday, there usually smiling faces will adorn battle colors, raw speed and metal-bending determination will propel them as they seek to appease their demanding fans. It will be epic and like New Years eve celebrations at Times Square, expect fireworks!
An entire day of motor-racing is planned. Severalclasses will compete and motorcyclists will do their scraping-knees dance. Dover Raceway, is today what it was yesterday – our Mecca of circuit racing and on Monday, the current crop of heroes will recognize and honor their predecessors with laps marked by passionate expressions of purpose and adrenalin-stimulating exploits.
