Race Car of the Year!

Culture is the way of life of a people and if not understood, misinterpretations float like buoyant clouds. I stepped in the wholesale. The rotund lady ordered a quarter pound of salted fish – an ordinary request. Then she threw in the complicated aspect. She modified her selection by dictating – “Mi want a pretty piece a saltfish!” Up to that point, I was not aware that salted fish possessed Miss World qualities. But, that is just an example of what makes the ‘rock’ the interesting place it is!

The year 2015 has received the white flag and is approaching the checkered flag. Which race car do you think is worthy to be the honorable recipient of the coveted award – Race Car of the Year.

Motorsport, on the national scale, is still swirling in the doldrums, but a beacon of hope exists and if the astute within those organizations which are confined to the nonperforming segment of the scale assume  bold and proactive status, the light at the end of the tunnel may actually be brilliant, promising and hopeful sunshine. We eagerly await the transformation.

Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore

Circuit racing navigated what has been a slippery slope for some time now. The CMRC event at Jamwest and Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore’s return to the track he ruled and dominated when the Evo was king, were the high points of the year. Doug’s battle with the marauder, David Summerbell Jr. and his (Doug) subsequent, ultra-daring, push to pass at Pinky’s Bluff, will be celebrated for years to come by the fortunate roaring fanatics who witnessed it! But, the race car of the year did not occupy a pit-bay at Dover Raceway.

Williams Auto and Service Center

In October, the Williams Auto and Service Center crew (WASC) was executing a task that they have remained committed to, for over a decade – preparing to race. Unfortunately,  one of the PulStar’s connecting rods had other plans. It snapped while being subjected to Orville’s fearless right boot! But, Orville ignored the apparent revolt. He kept the accelerator pegged and stormed to 9.05 seconds  @148 mph!

The machine was absent from Drag Challenge#4, but returned, with 35-45 lbs of boost, nitrous oxide, determination and a family loaded with expectations, to Drag Challenge#5.The PulStar did not disappoint. It soared like a MIG-25 Foxbat and was rewarded with 8.944 seconds @161.46 mph! The PulStar has earned special mention.

PulStar at War!

Race Car of the Year

In 2015, we witnessed an interstellar war. But, this time, it did not involve the Autobots and the Decepticons! We are grateful, however, that the thrill of speed and the creative juices still flow like the Black River! A builder/tuner who has seen it all and accomplished it all, one would have thought, that the fire, to innovate and create, has subsided. In 2015 we enjoyed an insane product from his work-station and we felt the winds of change, triggered by bustling atoms fleeing to escape his machine’s assault on time and space.

He devised, built and executed a masterpiece. And what we saw on-track, was a non-traditional being. A rare, arguably, an extinct creature – a Dodo bird! A specimen, that prior to now, would not depart from the lips of the experts, or the horsepower-hungry throng. But, it was created, it existed and like an IED, it reared its ugly, but beautifully conceived head, when pace and performance were required.

It is being sought by the X-Men. It is a teleportation device. George Bush has designated it a weapon of mass speed. It is capable of conducting lunar missions. It hurls scorn at the Hennessey Venom GT. It ridicules the Bugatti  Veyron Super Sport. It is, on the Jamaican stage, unconventional, when placed next to its classmates! It is without a doubt, number 1 on the CIA’s most wanted list. Because as fate would have  it, it presents a Clear and Present Danger and ensures that the terror-threat level is permanently wedged at bold-red – severe!

Its very existence in the league it competed in, meant it was always an underdog. It remained on its back-foot, maintaining an obvious disadvantage. Which, like a knowledgeable chatterbox, says a lot, about the level of ingenuity which was a requisite ingredient to complete the Mission Impossible!

However, despite being trapped in the aficionado’s whirlwind of doubt and burdensome competition, the Phoenix rose and its progress remained ceaseless with each appearance. The machine confronted the odds, adversity and ultimately, all of its competitors and drove away with Class Champion honors and a loyal band of adoring fans. And when it sat at the summit, observing the dismantled remnants of its foes, it raised a banner which read – Front Wheel Drive Record-Holder!

The Race Car of the Year is Xavia Murray’s 10.048 seconds @ 142,49 mph, NATURALLY ASPIRATED, Honda Civic EG!

FYI It’s a Nissan pulsar not pulstar quick edit to correct.

Welcome Onair. We are all fully aware that the machine mentioned, when it left its place of birth, was stamped – Nissan Pulsar. But, in Jamaica, we have a tendency of deviating from the accepted norm. I am not certain if the dedicated crew at Williams Auto and Service Center (WASC) chose to name their race car PulStar, however, this is a fact – the machine is affectionately known as the PulStar. Thanks.
