Will that headline appear after Sunday’s race in Abu Dhabi? Will the worldwide web come alive, kicking and screaming comments littered with praise, saluting the new World Champion? We wait. The celebration will be delayed, but not for long.
Keke Rosberg deviated from the expected Finnish norm. His skills were not on display on the loose, treacherous surfaces which populate WRC’s notorious stages. Keke joined the Formula 1 ranks, the first Finnish driver to do so and he rose to F1′s summit when he claimed the World Championship in 1982.
LEWIS HAMILTON
The apple, it is said, does not fall far from the tree and in Nico Rosberg the idiom claims veracity. Nico, Keke’s son, is on the verge of achieving that which is reserved for a select, chosen few. Nico is separated from his Oscar statuette by one race and his tenacious team-mate, defending World Champion Lewis Hamilton, who simply does not know how or when to quit!
The season-ending drama will unfurl on Sunday at a rather luxurious destination on the F1 calendar. Abu Dhabi will play host to the final joust. It is a winner take everything battle. Will Nico greet the history that beckons? Will he be crowned 2016 World Champion?
