Lewis Hamilton is a ferocious competitor. Defeat is an occurrence which he abhors and he refuses to embrace it willingly. He is the current World Champion and unless a dramatic outcome crosses the finish line in Abu Dhabi, he will be dethr0ned.
The season to be jolly is on the horizon, but – Who will be celebrating on Sunday? I perused some 2016 F1 happenings earlier and I must admit that the stars in 2016, for a collection of reasons, were not aligned in Hamilton’s favor. Conspiracy theorists step to the front of the room!
ROSBERG
The 2016 season began with Rosberg maintaining a successful rampage. A rampage which began during the final segment of F1 2015. And truth be told, luck, some would argue, has stood by Rosberg all year. Consider this. Lewis Hamilton had a bad start in the first two races of the year and if a tally was done re bad starts, Hamilton leads Rosberg 6 to 3.
Hamilton was also attacked mercilessly by engine failure. Hamilton’s usually bulletproof, Mercedes turbocharged demon, imploded during qualifying in China and Russia resulting in victory-stifling grid positions. And the stake to the heart was delivered in Malaysia while he was leading the race. His cries of no are still painfully audible.
And Rosberg? Has he had mechanical issues? The answer is a deafening NO! Mechanical gremlins plaguing Rosberg’s machine – ZERO! I understand the pain Hamilton’s fans have endured.
And despite the hurricane-force obstacles that have assaulted Lewis Hamilton thus far he trails his team-mate by a dozen points! The minute points margin speaks to the measure of the man (Hamilton) and do not be surprised if he reaches for the improbable and incredible and releases both on-track at Abu Dhabi. A mouth-watering prospect awaits and Abu Dhabi is ground zero.
Doubt that Hamilton is the better driver is absent from these pages. It is a nonexistent proposal, but history is heartless. It ignores individual agendas and in Abu Dhabi it will extend a helping hand to the driver/team that recognises the significance of the moment and unloads a machine equipped to claim all that is on offer.
It will be riveting. We expect fireworks. The on-track screenplay will mirror scenes from Mosul. It will be scintillating. We will be glued to the screen. But these two questions will not be answered satisfactorily until the checkered flag kisses the air – 1. Who will win the Abu Dhabi GP? 2. Who will be crowned F1′s 2016 World Champion?
The Abu Dhabi GP is this Sunday!
