FORMULA 1: HAMILTON DEFIANT IN DEFEAT! PART 2

Author : cmunroe

Mercedes AMG Petronas is the current umbrella under which German car manufacturer Mercedes Benz operates in Formula 1. Mercedes Benz is no stranger to Formula 1. In fact Mercedes Benz can boast with titles from as far back as the 1950s!

So, a rookie the manufacturer is not. In the modern era, beginning in 2010, the road to constructors and World Drivers’ Championships was not paved by first world contractors. Potholes, craters and ‘swimming pools’ were evenly dispersed along the racing surface, but somehow, the team managed to display flashes of brilliance. Nico Rosberg was present then.

In 2012, Rosberg inked his name in the History book when he won in China – a German aboard a German machine. Mercedes AMG’s future was poised for success. Lewis Hamilton grabbed an AMG steering in 2013.

Lewis Hamilton jumped in a Mercedes machine and from the moment he took to the track everyone at Mercedes knew that Rosberg would have to play catch up. Hamilton found no room to idle and allowed his ability to shine brilliantly. They did not have the best machine but they represented well.

In 2014 and again in 2015 Hamilton pushed Rosberg relentlessly, forcing him to commit some out-of-character sins. Such was the pressure that Rosberg bore. Hamilton drove well, always staying ahead of his humble-pie eating team-mate. Two Drivers’ titles lost after Hamilton’s arrival, Rosberg dived into commitment.

It is still uncertain how Mercedes’ German top brass view both drivers, but a progressive lens is not required to see who would be the ‘chosen one’. Chances are, it was felt that Hamilton had won enough and to set the record straight, possibly, minute assistance from the team was required to deliver a German champion. I have read it repeatedly and heard it vociferously expressed. But is there any truth to the allegations?

Did we see team intervention/manipulation in 2016?
