When an issue which should be addressed is repeatedly treated with band-aid solutions, the expression is – you are kicking the ball down the road. The internal combustion engine has been under siege for some time now. Engineers aided and abetted by their innate brilliance, devised innovative means to use electricity to propel the objects of our affection (motor vehicles/race cars).

Technological advances cannot be sidestepped, at least not for long and whether we approve or not, electric cars are sending shockwaves throughout the auto industry. Giants like Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren have shown that electricity can be harnessed and utilised to create torque-fill beasts on a path to destroy previously held concepts of speed – awesome machines.

But and there is always a pimple-size but. Electric race cars, some would argue, do not deliver the aural intensity and vocal presence of traditional race cars. There is absolutely no doubt that when appropriately applied, electric race cars will rearrange previously held concepts of speed – they are that fast! VW motorsport wrote a new chapter in Pikes Peak’s storied history recently with a machine that according to ‘pilot’ Romain Dumas has no noise.
