MotoGP: Valentino Rossi is insane (German Grand Prix)

Valentino Rossi is insane! How else can you explain the events which unfolded in Germany (16th -18th).

A rider who has a rock star’s status among his fans, the Fiat Yamaha rider was forced to sit out four rounds of the 2010 championship, when a violent high-side sent him crashing to the asphalt. Rossi fractured his right tibia in the process. Reports suggested that Rossi would be back for the Brno round (August 15th ), but Rossi had other plans. He admitted that it was difficult to sit and watch the races at home, which possibly drove him to fast-track his return.

Lorenzo

Christmas came early for MotoGP fans, when it became evident that Rossi would return at the German Grand Prix, ending his 6 weeks absence. Jorge Lorenzo took pole, as usual, followed by Casey Stoner (Marlboro Ducati), Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) and Rossi remarkably, qualified 5th .

One hundred thousand fans, witnessed Rossi’s return. When the bikes blasted away from their stationary position at the start of the race, the riders spent the early laps fighting tooth and nail for positions. Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Stoner and Dovizioso emerged as the break -away pack, while Rossi kept pace in fifth.

DePuniet

Randy DePuniet’s nasty tumble and fire on lap 9, halted the race, wiped out Lorenzo’s gap and gave Rossi a break. When the new, shortened race began, Pedrosa was reborn. He went for Lorenzo like an addict in pursuit of his fix, caught him and left him ingesting the Honda’s exhaust fumes!

Rossi’s return lost no steam however, as he battled with Stoner for third. He passed Stoner and tried to hold on to the position, but Stoner rode valiantly, showed no compassion and passed Rosssi on the final corner for third.

Surprisingly, Lorenzo was floored by Pedrosa’s pace. Pedrosa produced his best ride yet, broke Lorenzo’s streak of wins and sped across the finish line in position number 1. Somehow I am happy that someone has finally beaten Lorenzo.
