Many moons ago, hurricane poverty ravaged the island. Unfortunately my family wasn’t spared. We were rendered penniless, but thanks to the opportunities being literate provides we weathered the storm and picked up the pieces.
It is a vicious cycle though and despite my best efforts, many years after, I am still not able to buy that tarmac conquering race car my soul requires to beat the living daylights out of David Summerbell Jr and his accomplice, TA1 (AMS built Mitsubishi Evo VIII).
AMS
AMS had an awesome machine for sale on its website recently – a well built Evo IX – the Blue Demon. On paper, Blue Demon is an awesome machine. As I pictured myself strapped in the confines of the purpose built race seat, my friend, who is also my enemy, entered the room. Poverty spoke and reminded me that my basket was being held a bit too high. I couldn’t afford the car.
Look on the bright side, there is always spectating!
The Caribbean Invasion meet held at Dover in May is still fresh in the mind of some. Largely due to the fact that the rivalry between Caribbean territories Jamaica, Barbados and Guyana took to the track and produced ding dong battles which translated into an orgy of speed and excitement.
The meet scheduled for August 1st and 2nd is titled the Emancipation of Speed. The show will highlight local acts, but in their quest to set speed free, the drivers will rev the best out of their machines, as they chase glory and championship points in their various classes.
Doug Gore
David Summerbell Jr. has been an elusive target for some time now, but that serves as even greater motivation for his classmates. Doug Gore and the Team Mobay camp are possibly busy as I write/type, meeting by the camp fire, discussing the strategy required to overthrow the King.
Names which are always in the mix – Tedroy Burton, Alan Chen, Chris Campbell, Peter Jaggon, Kyle Gregg, Joel Jackson and others all have one thing in common – the drive to win and they will definitely be gunning for nothing else.
At the race meet in May, the sport bikes left an indelible mark on the fans. The visitor Kevin Graham, left a new record for the locals to chase and one can expect Stephan Chin, Adrian Blake, Halequin Rodney, Gregg Cross and company, to keep the fans on their feet as they drag fearless knees around the 1.6 mile circuit.
As the nation celebrates, we will collectively revel with unabated joy, as the competitors seek redline with each gear change, remove the restraints and liberate the speed required to secure victory. Freedom!
