DRAG RACING – WHO WAS CROWNED THE KING OF SHORES?

Author : cmunroe

“The two best days of my life!” Words expressed by a happily married man, a father who earns a living doing a job some of us would thoroughly enjoy. Was he referring to the day he got married and the day after? Was he talking about the days when his children were born?

I am certain those days wore hats labelled Significant Events and appropriately so, but, those days fell short when they were compared to what he was describing. In order to ensure that he retains a healthy marriage, the identity of the speaker will not be disclosed. Lol.

On the day we spoke, the husband and dad stated, without duress, that the two best days of his life were the days he had the opportunity to put the Corvette Z06′s pedal to metal, on a race track in Las Vegas! Sorry sir, not everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! Lucky bastard!

What is happening in drag racing in Jamaica? There was a time when order prevailed. NDRC would organise and like a finely tuned machine, execute noteworthy events. But, like everything in life, the wind marked change, blew. The NDRC was evicted and for a brief interval drag racing appeared rudderless.

That was short-lived however, and in less time than it takes Ken-T’s N/A cheetah to rattle the 10,000 rpm-bell along the 1320, Ken-T Racing and others stepped up and kept the drag racing flame burning and events are now free-flowing like a SKUNK2 Pro Series intake manifold! The fans are exceptionally elated! Why wait 3-4 months for the next event? Who does that? Lol.

KING OF SHORES

Apparently though drag racing has a different set of norms. Is there a drag racing season? No? Drag racers compete all year and the most recent e.t.- King Of Shores – sent shockwaves along the strip at Jamwest.

You were not there? Smh.

876 Streets is always repping with useful videos.

After the rubber settled, several Kings were crowned, including drag racing’s ageless stalwart – Herbie Edwards. And if what I read was accurate, despite his ineptitude in manipulating the implement which facilitates the changing of the gears (according to his detractors), Sir Ruel ‘Bally’ Barnett and ‘The Whale’  sped away with N/A honors. Interesting.

But wait, there is more. Is it true that ‘church’ will be held this Sunday (Dec. 30th)? Ken-T is now an engine supplier? Hhhmmmn.
