FORMULA 1 : MERCEDES-AMG PETRONAS CHEATING?

Author : cmunroe

I have always found it amusing and occasionally perplexing when individuals create a firestorm whenever it emreges that a driver or a team was caught cheating. If you are still one of those individuals who hurries to ignite controversy’s flame, especially if it is revealed that the team you love to hate was caught cheating, you have successfully conveyed to John Public that you know very little about motorsports.

RACING

I stated that to say this – where there is racing, there is cheating! In the quest for P1, the level playing field removes advantages which teams would normally exploit. The level playing field places an exorbitant premium on driver skill and car-setup. But, an unavoidable aspect of the level playing field doctrine, is the stimulus it engenders for creative thought.

The brain is a fruitful womb for novel ideas. Ideas which give rise to hopeful exploratory missions, all seeking to unearth or engineer intricate innovations, which when wrapped in the opaque clauses of rule book, may require judicial review to confirm legality.

Mercedes-AMG Petronas has solidified its reputation as a nuclear weapon in F1. The team continues to be the benchmark, the image and the symbol of  – What I should Aspire To – which is embedded in the hard drive of the brains of the Team Principals of the other teams on the grid.

With victories come a massive burden to maintain success. Mercedes-AMG Petronas prides itself as an outfit that leads – staying ahead of the F1-game and as such, forcing all others to submit to defeat’s handshake.

MERCEDES – AMG 2020 MACHINE

But wait, there is more. In pre-season testing Mercedes-AMG left very little hope on the table for the chasing pack. But, a 10-spanner was hurled into the events when it was discovered that trickery was conceived in the Mercedes-AMG cockpit!

DAS

Formula 1 is motorsports’ pinnacle. Is DAS the next big thing? Despite what has been stated and I am sure we have not heard the end of the story yet – Do you think Mercedes-AMG Petronas is cheating?

Sir Munroe, it has been a while, and I see you picked up where you left off last season. The headline is woefully wrong, The FIA has ruled that it is not illegal for 2020 but for 2021. Its called innovation.

  2. toyracer says:

Two days before you published this article the FIA stated that the Mercedes DAS system is legal for racing in 2020. Mercedes AMG is absolutely not cheating with their DAS innovation.

Welcome Toyracer! Examine the final paragraph of the blog – Formula 1 is motorsports’ pinnacle. Is DAS the next big thing? Despite what has been stated and I am sure we have not heard the end of the story yet – Do you think Mercedes-AMG Petronas is cheating?

I was aware of the FIA’s ruling. Interesting that DAS is illegal for 2021! The question was posed to get the views of readers of these pages, despite the official position. And you responded. Thanks!
