The 2010 F1 season has taken its permanent spot in the history books. Sebastian Vettel is slowly arising from his intoxicated state and Fernando Alonso is still in some remote orifice, catering to his wounds, which were so mercilessly inflicted in Abu Dhabi.
The 2010 MotoGP season has suffered a similar fate. Jorge Lorenzo is possibly chilling on a therapeutic beach in his homeland. Valentino Rossi, I am certain, is next to a Ducati engineer, in a dustless, astronaut-type suit required room, trying to unearth horsepower buried within restrictive cylinders, as he plots to unseat Lorenzo in 2011.
A huge chunk of my motorsports diet has been devoured by rather brief calendars, but as the saying goes – there is no place like home! Here in Jamaica we are blessed beyond comprehension. When race cars in North America and Europe are in search of a warm garage to escape the frosty reception winter ushers in, our competing with the wife possessions, are requesting their usual dose of TLC, before their speed infested assault at various locations islandwide.
Unfortunately, our circuit racing season has ended as well. David ‘the King’ Summerbell did the expected, emptied the vault and ran away with the valuable trophies, both at home and abroad (CMRC).
November is on its final lap, the tropical storms are behind us and we have a few weeks left in 2010 to enjoy pedal to the metal sandwiches.
Sprint
The sprint/rallycross event which was planned for Spot Valley in St James this weekend is no more. The pre Rally Jamaica show seems to be suffering from bureaucratic and logistics nightmares.
Leaving the line, with a blistering reaction time though, is drag racing at Jamwest this weekend (27th – 28th). Drag racers are keen to continue chasing the clock and the hunt for class honors begins on Saturday.
The year should close with a gratifying bang. Teams are in the final stages of their preparation, rehearsing to deliver mindboggling flat over crest action, during the Rally Jamaica festivities. The official launch for the event occurred on Thursday (18th ). A quick perusal of the activities scheduled prior to the first timed stage December 4th, should give fans ample time to familiarize themselves with the teams and their machines – both local and international.
So this is my message today. There are still a few events remaining which need your support. During the course of this week I will say more about drag racing at Jamwest and I might just share a current Dover project.
Are you interested in competing (motorsports)? Which discipline would you compete in? (Drag racing, Rallysport, Circuit racing etc.) Which car would be your weapon of choice? (make, model, etc).
