Jamaica – A tourist’s paradise?

Author : teriann

For the fifth year in a row Jamaica copped the top prize as the leading Caribbean destination.  Well that’s great news.  I guess I am a bit confused though, just how are we capitalising on our awards?

I suppose what confuses me is that if we are so great how come so many people live below the poverty line and at night we stay behind closed doors cowering in fear.  Shouldn’t the greatest Caribbean destination in the world offer its citizens security?

If other people think Jamaica is such a great place how come we don’t seem to feel that way?  Pass by the American and Canadian Embassies any day of the week and you will see the hopefuls gather in their quest for a new life on Northern shores.  Why don’t they stay here and help build our country?

Congrats Jamaica but we need to live up to the name ‘Best Caribbean Destination’.  What is your view on the awards?

I come back to this Blog all the time, mostly to read the comments.
I find the wide range of views most intersting, as there are positives and negatives no matter where in this world one chooses to visit.
We have been around the world, but Jamaica is where my wife and I chose to retire.
We live in a rural area near Montego Bay and produce enough food not only for ourselves, but for the majority of our neighbours as well.
I must say however, in my opinion those who make comments about Colonialism and Slavery are probably the same ones who make derogatory comments about the colour of our skin, and have their hand out “fi beg a likkle sumpin boss” and are too lazy to help themselves.
We are willing to help anyone who truely wants a hand up, but not a hand out.
Keep up the good work Terri Ann

Jamaica still is one of the most beautiful places on this earth and it is not surprising that it is a favored destination. What bothers me is that the benifits that should have trickled down to the people are somewhat non existent. We(taxpayers) spend hundreds of millions of dollars to develop infrastructure to support tourism and all we seem to get in return is minimum wage jobs, imported foods and having our beaches taken away.

Astonishingly sensible thanks, I do believe your audience might terribly well need a smart deal a lot of stories like this persevere the excellent exhausting work.

I believe what you published was very logical. But, think about this, suppose you composed a catchier post title? I ain’t saying your information isn’t good., but suppose you added something that grabbed people’s attention? I mean %BLOGTITLE% is a little vanilla. You should look at Yahoo’s home page and watch how they create article titles to grab people to open the links. You might add a video or a related pic or two to get readers interested about everything’ve got to say. In my opinion, it might make your posts a little livelier.
