Home Decor on a budget!

Author : teriann

Have you ever seen those beautiful hotel rooms or seen one between the pages of a magazine and wondered how you could afford it? Well it is possible to have your house looking good on a budget!

Decor options

The best factor to consider when deciding on decor is to check what works for your area.  I love looking at the Internet for inspiration but often I need to tweak what I have found to ensure that it can work in my environment. As a result decor with heavy fabrics and dark colours are not attractive to me as I prefer light colours which can reduce the heat.

There is also personal taste to consider as persons will choose a style that best complements their personality.  If there are any children in the house this too has to be a part of the decision making process.  Some styles are more suitable for adults such as all white couches with matching carpets.

Cost

You might think that you need a lot of money to decorate but with a little creativity you can achieve your goal!

The first thing to do is to identify a style that suits you and your needs.  The next step is to identify the materials that you will need.

This can be challenging as the materials might be costly.  However this problem can be resolved if you are open to alternatives. Sometimes furniture can be reupholstered for a brand new look and its cheaper than buying them brand new.  Instead of buying new curtains in the store, you can try your hand at purchasing material and making your own curtains.

Storage is always a problem but if you get creative you can use space under beds and tables by getting a carpenter to install some shelves.  If you have good storage space then you can showcase your home without the clutter.

Be creative!

Recycling is a great way to save money while decorating.  For instance empty wine bottles can be washed, painted and used for vases. Boxes and plastic bottles can also be used to create a new look.

Instead of trying to purchase costly artwork, pictures can be printed and mounted.  Some persons also choose to showcase their own paintings or those of their children.

Whatever you choose the finished product will be amazing and your budget will still be intact!

Agreed. Use pictures and decorative objects, you dont need expensive art work, unless you can afford it. Ive been using pictures interchangeably to enhance my space and the energy. Im big on Feng Shui, Im also a minimalist, with a flair for contemporary decor, clean lines, airy, functional items. The energy must flow freely in and out. Light is also important. If there is none, I create my own with lighting fixtures, or mirror.
