Inorder to ensure that the race car performs as expected, if the budget allows, test and tune become vital aspects of the diet. Modern technology allows this process to occur at any time of the day or night and more importantly, away from the race track. So where do drivers/teams test and tune? There is a facility we refer to as the ‘dyno’ (if you do not know what a ‘dyno’ is, you have homework to do) and this is where all the minute reliability and power-sapping glitches are sorted out.
Nissan Pulsar
On Thursday night, I passed through the ‘dyno’ (CARS). Machines were revving to the stratosphere, trying to find the 2 horses that fled the motor! The Williams brothers were in the building with their Dover machine – the white Pulsar. The Pulsar will be competing in IP38 and it was a screamer on the dyno! The Nissan loyalists will have their energy boost when they see this machine and an additional boost when they hear it! Persons who were at the ‘dyno’ had to comment continuously about the aggressive, bone-rattling note that exited the mechanical beast each time it was forced into high rpm. Machine!
Marck Carey
Marck Carey was present as well, but when I arrived, his machine was in its DTM stance, on its air jacks and was being attended to by a team of surgeons. Unfortunately, a mechanical viper ended Marck’s ‘dyno’ session. The machine has benefited from a make-over, it is visually stunning and my hope remains unchanged – I want to see this machine doing what is was designed and built to do – run some ‘serious’ lap times! We are in your corner Marck. All the best!
Natasha ‘Chiney Dolly’ Chang
On Thursday, I also passed through what ATL Automotive described as – Unveiling Jamaica’s Most Technically Advanced MP1 Honda Civic. The unveiling of Natasha ‘Chiney Dolly’ Chang’s new machine took place at ATL’s Hagley Park Rd. facility.
This was then-visit the track and you will see the incredible transformation!
After brief remarks, the machine was undressed by a few lovely ladies and then the cameras went into paparazzi mode! According to the Chief Engineer, Raj Jadusingh, the machine is “unlike what is usually built locally” and ‘Chiney Dolly’ says she is aiming for lap times in the 1:29s. Is the machine now Unbeatable? Sunday will tell.
