Spanish riders are threatening to make the 2013 MotoGP championship their minute playpen! As they gathered for the Aragon GP, Jorge Lorenzo, the defending World Champion, was second in the points race. A position, which was shared with Repsol Honda rider, Dani Pedrosa. The rookie in the room, Marc Marquez, brought his fiery brand of riding skills from Moto2 to the premiere class and burnt the status quo to microscopic ash – he led the championship!
Stoner
What do these riders have in common? They are all products from Spanish loins! And the fact that the Aragon GP brought the duel to home-soil, one would imagine that the intensity and pressure applied to perform, increased to an infinite degree! Marquez reminds me of the individual he replaced at Repsol Honda – the legend- Casey Stoner. So, Stoner held the lap record at Aragon and as if by design, Marquez erased Stoner’s time and took pole ahead of Lorenzo and Pedrosa.
Lorenzo
Lorenzo is razor sharp off the line at the start of a GP and he revealed that again in Aragon. He streaked away at the start and for a moment it appeared as if he was planning to repeat his Grand Theft run in Misano and flee with all the silverware! But, ambition and pride are adrenalin shots – Pedrosa and Marquez filled his mirrors with orange, red and white. The internal dispute between Pedrosa and Marquez was settled in an unintentional, unsavory manner. Imperceptible contact between the two, caused by a charging Marquez, triggered a component failure which resulted in Pedrosa flying without wings through the crisp Aragon air!
Marquez
The chase to Lorenzo was on at that point and as soon as Marquez caught him, a couple laps later, he pounced. The immediate response from Lorenzo did not materialise and it was evident that he did not have much to unsettle the rookie. Prior to Marquez waltzing across the finish line to stamp his unquestionable dominance on the 2013 season, the combatants for P3 and P4 Rossi, Bradl, Bautista and Crutchlow all delivered Oscar claiming performances.

Marquez-the last man standing in Aragon – now leads the championship by 39 points. Lorenzo is being haunted by the number 93!
