MOTORSPORTS : HILLCLIMB MACHINES ON THE NORTH-SOUTH HIGHWAY?

Author : cmunroe

An electric motor which drives one of the monstrous wheels on Christian Von Koenigsegg’s record-erasing One:1, generates more horsepower than the engine which breathes speed into my race car!

Texas possibly received more water than that which is available on this, the land of wood and water. And the most brutal irony washed ashore yesterday. Some areas are without a water supply because the pumping station succumbed to flood water! Texas, we pray for you.

DOUG ‘HOLLYWOOD’ GORE

Before the North-South highway was opened to vehicular traffic, I had a conversation with Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore. The substance of the conversation envisioned the DTM Audi TT-R ripping from the Mandela start point to a predetermined point anywhere along the first class surface! Obviously, all the appropriate, sanctioning/requirement boxes would be ticked and the legal and safety requirements would be in place to facilitate such a run.

It was an idea that brought ‘Hollywood’ to life and he was excited about the prospect. We now know that it did not happen. I can still picture it. And if what I visualized in my head was allowed to see the light of a real day, we would have all gained immensely from the exercise!

Fortunately, there are places in the world where this is commonplace. And one such place – Switzerland – hosts the best, such event. There is simply no comparison to this event!

THE MOST EXCITING HILLCLIMB!

THE BEST HILLCLIMB – 2017!

What is your view?

I am still of the view that we should have a similar event somewhere on ‘the rock’!

Welcome Dwight! Hailings. I am of the view that we need to reinvigorate motorsports in Jamaica. There was a time when Sprint events were frequently held, for example, at Ironshore and Vernamfield and they were very popular events.
Drag racing is way ahead of the other disciplines in terms of organization, promotion, competitors and possibly spectators in attendance.

There is work to be done and an all Ts crossed and all Is with their appropriate dots hillclimb event, on a sublime and altitude-grabbing surface, I think, is an ideal platform for such an event! Doug, make it happen! I agree!
